Anyone else watching F1 in Austin?  Rolex is the F1 official timepiece and they had a commercial with the platinum Daytona.  It is such a beautiful bezel and dial combination that some people hate but I happen to love.

Found the commercial on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d65fR0avXn8

Cool Monaco Keith, thanks for sharing with us!

So I come with a question for my TWAT brothers. I am getting the itch again. It is an itch that is not overwhelming. I think I can resist it. But eventually, I know I will give in. So I have several watch-related goals. Of course, I want a Patek dress watch one day. I would like a Rolex one day. And I would like a Genta-designed watch at some point.

So what should I do. Go for the Rolex? Namely, the BLNR? Or save for an AP RO or Nautilus. Right now I am leaning towards the 15202, although the 5711 is ever-beckoning (I am leaning towards the RO a lot because it is the one AP that I would like to have, and I feel like the 15202 may have a short life--there are a WHOLE LOT of Pateks I want). Part of me says go for the RO when I am debt free, have no wife, children, car payment, etc., while another part of me says that it is kind of silly. Of course, it would take me some time to save (read, a year or so), but what say you! Go for the gold?

Newk - You don't mention wanting an AP one day but you do mention a Rolex and PP.  These watches are in 3 different leagues so I don't think the BLNR will keep the itch away very long.  It almost sounds like the Nautilus will be the best bet but it is the most expensive of the three.  Though this did not help much I love the three watches you selected.  Very solid set of sport watches.

Hmmm, well, I do tend to keep my collection to "one watch, one brand," and there are other Pateks I want other than a Nautilus. I would love to own an AP, but the only AP I really would like is the 15202. Thanks for the support on all three though, I think they are a nice representation of each brand! I think you are right about the BLNR not sating my appetite.

In regards to 15202 v. 5711, I waiver almost daily. I have never seen the 15202 in the flesh, so I would have to do that before I made my decision smile.gif.

Haha, I knew you would be good for an AP vote. And thanks! It really is a very pretty watch. Did you see it on someone at the NMWA trunkshow? I am excited to see some pics of the event.

Greg had on the PanoMaticLunar on Saturday. I love that watch, and I am positive I love it because I've heard Dino's opinion of it a few times now and still come out loving it!

Stiches, since I had to leave early Sunday and didn't have a chance to chat, I think we should organize a twat event in the near future. Maybe do a tire kicking event in honor of Mimo.

Oh and Nuke, I vote for the AP based on what you wrote. I'm inferring some feelings from your post, and it just seems like the AP is the smart move now. Then I say save for a PP and see if you even have the Rolex itch anymore at that point.

I think that you make a good point. Between an AP RO and my Speedy, I do not know if I really need another spot in the stable designated for a sports watch. My working environment is absurdly business casual, and I think that RO would be a good choice, especially if I ever transfer to a more formal department in the firm.

How awesome is the rose gold variant? I am a sucker for that ivory dial, especially on the MUT with no moon.

And I still vote for a NYC tire kicking event when I come up in December.

Looks like we have a tentative date already. I think it would be a fun event if we could organize something even if it was an informal meet up. Grab some food and drinks, then just watch shop as a horde haha.

I was looking at SJX's blog yesterday, and came across the Patek 5959. I have to say that this is the kind of watch that really makes me respect the heck out of Patek.

It is watches like this that make me realize that Patek is the honey badger of the watch world.

It was made in 2005, which when you think about, is right in the middle of the Panerai phase. Ben Clymer at Hodinkee really makes some good points about it. To summarize what he said: "who the heck makes a 33mm watch just for the hell of it?" But yeah, I just wanted to share it with y'all. I really respect the watchmaking ethos of PP.

The way I see it, you don't have any duds in that group, WHATSOEVER, Nuke. All winners. And of course we are here to enable.

So if you are strictly prioritizing the order of purchase, I'd put the Rolex last based on the fact you already have a Speedy. BLNR has to be considered strictly sporty, although somebody out there is wearing one with a suit, sure as I am typing this.

Both of the Genta watches are true "crossovers" IMO, quite versatile in their own ways....and especially since you've described your workplace as more casual....either the RO or Nautilus should be appropriate.

But I guess if you think about it, the Royal Oak ticks off two boxes there, since you don't really desire another AP....so yeah, probably get that one first. Royal Oak it is!

And don't wait around. Your future kids are hella-expensive LOL.

FWIW, after re-reading, I also interpret your words and subsequent post to mean that you might rather have a different/dressier Patek eventually.

Decisions, decisions....

That Patek is superb, NewC. I wonder how that 33mm wears on the wrist?

Maybe frilly can kop for us and provide pics and an analysis? devil.gif
