I'm not in the market to purchase but hope to be in the next several months (can someone say wedding gift? :smarmy:).  What are the opinions on the various Omega Speedmaster Professional models?

1) 3570.50 --> hesalite crystal, steel back

2) 3572.50 (discontinued) --> hesalite crystal, sapphire display back

3) 3573.50 --> sapphire crystal, sapphire display back

4) 3592.50 --> hesalite crystal, sapphire display back (gold gilt movt.)

To me the 3570.50 maybe more historically correct due to the hesalite crystal and steel back. However the sapphire crystal works better for me, and there are few things better than having the ability to get a good look at this movement.

What's good my TWAT friends, hope all is good. So I am surprised this has not been mentioned yet, but I figured I would bring it into the thread. As we all know, SIHH is around the corner, and some brands have started to show some of the new 2014 novelties. One that really popped was this bad boy:

Below is a nice report done over on TPP:

http://alang.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-10/pi-6166188/ti-900743/s-0/t-alange-sohne-grand-lange-1-moon-phase-the-full-report/

So this is the new Grande Lange 1 Moonphase. I guess it is the big brother of the other Lange 1 Moonphase:

The new GL1M is really quite beautiful in my opinion. The moonphase disc is a thing of beauty, and looks spectacularly made. However, I am a big reticent about the 41mm size. However, it is supposedly very thin.

My take--I really, really like it. I think it is quite gorgeous, and is a bit unexpected. I love the giant moonphase. But then, I am a sucker for giant moonphases. Although it is a bit bigger than I would like, I love the fact that Lange makes good use of the large case size.

As for the Speedy--I love my 3750.50. It is as close to the original as it gets, which is important to me.

Frills, My GF liked your last post. The 'Thumby' I added is on her behalf. :)

Bill, I like your girlfriend.  The thumb I added is also on her behalf.

Nuke, I suspect you're right about the size - although is seems a bit gratuitous to make the case bigger (and they are all at it, it seems), if it's a little shallower I doubt it wears very big.  Those lugs, from when I've seen them, are kind of smooth and compact, so the feel is just of a big smiley dial rather than a chunk of case.  That was my impression from the other Grande Lange 1 anyway.  However, although I love moonphases, and the moonphase was one of only three Lange 1's I really like (with the TimeZone and the Tourbillon, for their slight asymmetry), I am not sure about this one.  The shiny relief moon and stars are lovely on the new one (like the GO I was raving about), but I think I preferred the old layout somehow.  Still, as ever, no substitute for seeing one on the wrist...

^^ What does that mean?

P.S. I like the hands more on the new one.

You really can't go wrong with any of them. I just got the 3572.50 in last week and it's terrific.  Personally I had to have one with the display back after seeing pictures like this .... (not mine).

^^ +1 to this.

Although to be fair, I must issue a disclaimer: I've found that I have never once disagreed with dddrees.  Whether that says something about my refined tastes (him dragging me up his level), or his lack of it (me dragging him down to mine), is a separate discussion.

Hahaha thanks Bill.  The Nautilus survived, but barely.  And only because my four year old insisted that she do most of the work herself.  Independent little girl.

this. this back needs to be bare. much like our TWAT spokeswoman.

Your TWAT spokeswoman has nothing special in the back worth revealing, for all her ubiquity and other redeeming features.  Rather like a Rolex. :)
