How to choose a suit?

Hi all. I'm in Sydney and getting married and would like to buy a nice suit for the occasion. It would great to hear some opinions and advice. I'm open to MTM but have a normal/athletic body type so wouldn't have a problem with OTR. As I don't where a suit for work and like the idea of not wearing a tie, can anyone suggest suits which may be suitable for my needs? I guess I'm after a stylish suit that I can also wear in less formal situations. I can spend about $1,500 but would go up to $2,000 if it included a second jacket, maybe a blazer. Thank you.

You'll probably get some more Australia-specific responses if you re-post this in the Australian Members' thread, which is here.

There are quite a few MTM places in Sydney, with one of the best-known being P.Johnson, but there are a number of other, very good places that will make suits to order.

If you're going to have a suit made up, be sure to have a good think beforehand about what you actually want in a suit, and then have a chat with the tailor about what you'd like so that they can give you some input and you can (if necessary) refine your choices.

The great thing about made-to-measure or bespoke clothing is that there are so many options, but that can also be a drawback as people can sometimes feel overwhelmed. It also pays to look around in stores and to try on a few different styles/colours to see what you like, before deciding on what options you want in your order.

If you're looking at off-the-rack clothing, I'd recommend that you have a look in Herringbone and MJ Bale, as they both have suits in your price range that are fairly slim-cut and which suit an athletic build.

I'm sure that others will chime in if you put a post in the Australian Members' thread.

Thanks for that. I can walk to both MJ Bale and Herrigbone from home.
