My two eyelet derby in saddle shell that I got from Gentlemens Footwear is just stunning. I can't wait to see how it turns out in a boot, and feel certain that the MTO participants will be well pleased. In fact, I bet that if Steve ordered an extra pair in a UK 9 they'd almost certainly find a home. ;-)

Both my Carmina and AE shell spot pretty readily. They can be brought back with some brushing and / or an application of Saphir cordovan cream. But it is a bit of a PITA as compared with calf or suede - which is why I prefer the latter for dedicated foul-weather footwear.

I use Saphir Hiver-Winter, let dry and put a small coat of renovateur on. Works very well.

Ah very cool, thanks. So it removes the spots? I find the spots to look almost raised from the surface of the leather initially.

Yep removes spots pretty effectively. But it has some sort of dissolvent/soap in it so you need to re-apply polish on calf shoes or use renovateur or cordovan cream on shell shoes. What I do on shell is I dip a cotton pad in the hiver-winter, wipe the stained area, let dry, wipe with a damp cloth (to remove any residual hiver-winter) , let dry, apply renoveteur, let dry, polish with stockings.

So it's as much of a PITA process as anything else but the stains are gone.
