THE COMPETITION WAS FIERCE. THE MOTH-HOLES WERE EVERYWHERE. CARTS STREWN ALL AROUND US. BUT IN THE END, THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE. VOTING ENDS ON 1/3/13 AT 11:59PM GMT. WINNER GETS A BUNCH OF AWESOME STUFF COURTESY OF DM7, Inc. THANKS TO DM7 AND DAVESMITH FOR WHITTLING DOWN ALL OF THE NOMINATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING 10: Oxxford SC w/ 14k gold buttons - lastdonb “14k gold buttons on Oxxford SC. Only set of gold buttons posted all year. Many Brionis, Kiton etc, but only one thrifted set of gold buttons. Purchased SC for $6, sold the buttons for $540. Put harvested buttons on the Oxxford and now wear.”
Went to a new GW on the west side of Phoenix before a game, at first it was just Mickey Mouse stuff: Then to another GW closer to the ballpark and an EPIC, EPIC, EPIC find: It's a rust brown with green and brown window pane and is a 40S
Thrift pic:
Tie: Brioni brown grenadine, AE Oak Arlington's. Just need the sleeves shortened.
But, you may ask, why is this EPIC? Looking at the buttons, they looked kinda like plastic and I thought I could replace them with horn, but upon further inspection: 14K GOLD BUTTONS!!!!! Their marked Lindsay 14K on one end and 14K on the other. A little sleuthing turned up Lindsay & Co. of New York http://lindsayco.com/ and their on line catalog. There are matching cuff links on page 20, but the buttons are on page 32. Called the company and the sales rep said that the buttons are solid 14K gold (have 2 jacket and 4 cuff buttons) and the retail replacement cost for the jacket buttons at a jeweler is around $700-$1000 each and the cuff buttons about $400-$500 each. For some reason I don't think the buttons are gonna stay on the jacket! Will have to consult the wise one, SPOO, and see if the "clothing" value of the jacket with gold buttons would be worth more than the value of the buttons.
Gucci Crocodile Loafers, Tom Ford era - acosbysweater “Gucci crocodile loafers from the Tom Ford era. They are among the scarcest Gucci items, retailed for north of $4,000, and are from the period of the time of the designer that helped reinvent menswear. Oh, and I purchased them for $10, had them refinished for around $225, and sold them for $2,240. This is the come-up that Macklemore is talking about. Just go ahead and read the entire page below from top to bottom. Stupefied amazement from all involved.”
Started my day by hitting four stores and only coming out with an early Johnny Cash record when he was on Sun in VG+ condition. I passed on a pin striped Oxxford SC, obviously orphaned in a 39R. It fit me incredibly well, but being that it was unvented and without pants it was basically useless. From 1973! Then, I finally hit my favorite store and had a decent tie day, one in which I passed on no less than 10 hideous, flimsy, old Zegna ties. I did pick up some incredible spring ties, one Vineyard Vines with Beluga whales printed all over, a fruit-themed Ferragamo, and a NWT Tyrwhitt. It was also a fantastic shoe day, picking up two AE loafers in 10 1/2D (Glasgow in brown, Newport in black tassle) which seem to be a hair large for me, if anyone is interested in trading for a 10D. Also, THESE: The last pic is quite blurry, but I'm basically showing that the heel wedge says "Gucci Italy" and notice that the "genuine crocodile" plate is missing from this and the other shoe. That explains why they were priced for a pittance. They are a 10 1/2 EEE, which is far too wide for me. Spoo, any idea on their vintage?
John Lobb Lopez loafers - jamiebryant “Item: John Lobb Lopez Loafers. Why? they appeared to have been worn once then donated.”
I NEVER check shoes but this time I decided to and there was a pair with shoe trees in them that caught my eye...it was this.... They look like they worn 1 day and maybe the dude didnt like the fit so returned them to whatever the retail store was that donated them. Worst part of it all, theyre my damn size and fit like a glove. Why's that bad thing? Im broke and intended to buy them for flipping purposes. Ugh.
Dior Homme Jacket - jamiebryant “Dior Homme Jacket, 8.99”
I was scanning through the jackets and skipped this, but then did a double take because it looked interesting...pull out the label and nearly had a stroke... Dont want to steal Shiny's thunder with his Thom Browne score...but im sure you guys would appreciate seeing some Dior Homme and not the usual Christian Dior licensed garbage that sometimes plagues this forum. HIDDEN FUNCTIONAL CUFFS... GW PRICE TAG....For the Non-Believers.... This thing has... On-Seam Waist Pockets in addition to the normal ones, not sure if they are flap pocket ones though, the rest of the pockets are still sewn shut Open Front Floating Canvas Construction Single Vented Fully Lined Satin Under Collar/Lapels Button Holes on both lapels so you could move that militant key loop/button thing to the other side if you want Made in Italy SS/2012 Just needs a good pressing! Best part of all?...Fits me almost perfectly!
Thom Browne Suit - shiny “thom browne suit”
Found this:
P1010579.jpg
$20. Coat feels like a 42R, and it is a 3roll2. Pants are 32 waist or so. inseam is like 32 or 33. Be willing to make it available for a suit in my size (and I will be picky- regular posters only). If not, I’ll fleabay it and use the proceeds for a pair of new Aldens.

Kiton 14 Micron / Super 180's Suit - androfan “Recent Kiton 14 micron/Super 180s brown with blue stripes suit. Why? It's sicknasty and was the softest, thinnest, and most lightweight thing I've ever handled. “
Definitely my best 2 days ever, including a once-in-a-lifetime piece. And this... Insane.
Ralph Lauren Purple Label Cashmere Topcoat - eazye “RLPL topcoat, need I say more?”
So I had a great day today. Being the broke-ass that I am at the moment, I decided to take a bunch of stuff that I'm too lazy to post on ebay, to the local buy/sell/trade spot. As they are going through my bags, I decide to check put the men's stuff. This is one of the those places that caters to the H&M crowd, so nothing worth mentioning, although, this is the place I found a pair of RLPL trousers for Brianpore about a month ago. Anyhoo, I didn't find anything in the mens section, so I decide to check out the woman's section. I nearly shat myself when I saw this. RLPL double breasted greatcoat made out of 100% cashmere, sick hounds-tooth with purple window-pane over-check. Ticket pocket, vented, huge peak lapels and large horn buttons. Pretty much one of the nicest pieces of clothing I've ever handled. This is a few years old to be sure, but my ****** google-fu indicates that these retailed for 3-4K when new. Unavailable at the moment. Anybody know who made this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Band of Outsiders Suit - hmmurdock “Band of Outsiders suit made by Martin Greenfield. BoO is almost never found on thread. Bought it for $15 sold it for $425. Why go for an obvious choice with the same maker which floods the thread all the time.”
Finally got around to taking pics of that Band of Outsiders suit by Martin Greenfield size 3 (or blazer and trousers as you have to buy them seperately). This suit is amazing. Hand sewn buttonholes, pick stitching everywhere. Definitely one of the nicer tailored pieces I've ever seen. One size larger and this would definitely be a keeper. Chest 40 Shoulder 17.25 Length 27 Sleeve 24 +1.25 Pants 32 +2 Length 29 +2
YSL Rive Gauche Leather Jacket - rayxlui “Rive Gauche Leather Jacket. Rare. Leather.”
OMGAD WHAT AN AWESOME DAY. I SAW LIKE 10 CHRISTIAN DIOR SUITS AND 5 YSL. I PICKED UP 3 DIOR AND 1 YSL. IF ANYONE WANTS ONE I CAN PICK ONE UP FOR THEM. And then, there was this bad boy. This I had to pick up.
700
Wait, what's that.
700
Oh hai. Wasn't kidding when I said I picked up a YSL.
700
Totally worth the 40 bucks.
Tiffany 18K Solid Gold cufflinks - beigehatch “Tiffany 18K Solid Gold cufflinks. With all the bags and packaging for them. Paid $5.00 for them. Sold them on ebay for over $700.”
here's what i got to really brag about: tiffany 18k gold cufflinks for $5. and lots of other silver and gold pins for cheap!!! :slayer:

I voted for the Gucci Loafers, mainly because I don't want to live in (or acknowledge) a world where a thrift store sells gold cufflinks in original Tiffany packaging for $5. Oh, and by "world," I, of course, mean LA.

I went for the TB suit -- not because it's the most valuable, but because it's the most unexpected.

Lots of cool candidates. The cufflinks are obviously mindblowing. Even small stores recognize BIG names, overmarking BB for example. How do they not mark up Tiffanys? The RLPL is crazy, the Gucci loafers are thrift-thread royalty, the Thom Browne might be my favorite looking of the items... I had to vote for the Lobbs though. Even if they aren't the fullboat custom jobs... Shoes from a legitimate $1k+ shoemaker, effectively unworn, sitting on a thrift store shelf... Crazy.

Wow. Some really impressive items. Tough call...

Amazing that someone was willing to spend $2,400 on used loafers. I had some Tom Ford era loafers I gave to my brother... Should have sold them through Spoo!
