Fit of my trench - alter or not?

I just found my alltime fav trench at deep discount, the navy w/ gold buttons burberry prorsum coat and i really like it. However im not 100% sure if i should get it altered to slim down the body of the coat or not. What do you think?

It's quite roomy throughout the chest and skirt part of the coat and i have to belt it up quite a bit to get a good fit when not wearing a jacket beneath. Would it be easy alterations to change this?

I was considering moving the buttons to tighten it up, would this be a good idea or is there any other method?

I very much like it as well and think you wear it well, though I would personally like a slimmer fit.

I'll let some of the more knowledgeable forum members take a stab at the tailoring specifics, but I think a knowledgeable tailor could slim it down without just moving the buttons.

To me it looks a little snug, but I happen to like very loose fits. Also, I have a difficult time judging a garment's fit, unless I see the model in motion.

Thanks, In the photo im not wearing a jacket, just a shirt, but i've belted it pretty hard in the waist since it's cut pretty straight (if it looks like im busting out at the waist).

I think it looks great. I have just bought a trench coat that is on the tight side of slim fitting. I hope it will set to my body shape a bit. I would not mind the way your coat fits if it feels comfortable and looks as good as it does on the pics. However if you need to belt up tightly to get a fitted look, I dont know, maybe you should post a picture with the trench coat unbelted for us to judge the cut of the coat itself.

Then, any more fitted and the trench won't be able to accommodate a jacket. Personally, I like for my outerwear to be able to accommodate a sportjacket, therefore I'll live with a bit looser fit when going without one.

Great trench, I also really like that model, so congrats on the good find. I think the fit is actually perfect as is, but I've never been one of those people that thinks clothes should fit on you skin-tight. I wouldn't alter it.

I think it would look much better altered... i don't think getting it altered means having it be 'skin-tight'. Right now, it just looks a little too big to me (especially how it blouses out near the bottom)

trenches are normally cut square sided. its meant to be gathered at the waist and thats the style. if you had it shaped on the sides it would too feminine.
