Does it look alright?

Last year I purchased this DB Hardy Amies for a pretty fair price - down from nearly 1500 pounds to 750. I guess it was last year´s collection last year, or something like that. Anyway, I tried it on and found it to be a pretty good fit for an OTR suit. I had them shorten the jacket a bit, and that´s it.

I didn´t wear it throughout the year as it´s been too warm. Now that it´s cooler though, I´ve pulled it out and I´m planning on wearing it quite a bit.

I would like to ask for your opinions on the fit, especially the fit of the jacket. I know the sleeves will have to be shortened.

I just tossed it on real quick so excuse the sloppy tie.

Being DB I don't mind so much that it's on the short side, but combined with the vents flaring like that it looks small.

Having the lamp turned on and facing you and a burning cigarette resting in an ashtray on the edge of the desk would have completed the effect of an interrogation room. The sleeve cuffs do not need to be taken up. The waist suppression on the jacket is alarming. Keep this suit if you must but do not repeat this degree of supression on your other jackets. A haircut will help appearances for the base of the neckline at the back of the jacket. Welcome to Styleforum.

The jacket came with that amount of waist suppression. I just paid a visit to the tailor, and according to him it´s not so much the waist suppression that´s the problem; it´s my big backside. I have a very hollow lower back and a fairly developed behind causing the jacket to "rest" on my hips/lower back. He showed me that if the back is taken up a bit, the puckering on the lower back lessens to a point where I don´t find it that bothering anymore.

Opinions on that?

yes the back is hung up on your butt.
have the hip area made larger so that it will slide down.
also the waist at the side seams could come out a little.
the pictures are too small to see much.
before you shorten the sleeves, be sure the shirt sleeves are correct.

Even after enlarging the pictures? I´ll see if I can get some better, bigger pictures on here. Is the lighting good enough to see detail?

To make the hip area larger, there would have to be some excess cloth "within" the jacket, right? I´m not sure if that´s the case. I´ll make sure to ask the tailor. I´ll also ask about letting out the side seams in the waist area a bit. I just hope there´s some extra fabric hidden somewhere in there.

What would "lifting up the back" from the top do? That´s basically what the tailor said would do the trick. When he pinned it, it looked alright. Though I trust that he know´s what he´s doing, I just believe two people see more than one...

The sleeves need some shortening.They´re currently hitting at the base of my palm.

The suit, as is, is it alright? I mean, does it look decent enough for me to wear to work/dinner/job interviews? Would even the average joe see that it´s a bit off? Would a woman think I look awful? It was an OTR suit, so I´m not expecting perfection. I´d just like it to be a useable, alright looking suit.

I don't have enough expertise to state whether or not there is enough material to allow your tailor to remedy the tightness, so I will leave that for the tailors here.

I actually prefer DB's to be a bit on the longer side, as they have a slightly widening effect on the body, and being longer compensates for it. I also prefer DB's to have a lower button stance than SB's and a longer length leaves more room for that. Wondering if I'm the only one that thinks so.

Youre not the first one to comment on the coziness of our "guestroom". You all laugh, but that room will serve as some proper shelter when the world ends later today.

Thanks for the picture modification, it´s definitely easier to look at now. Will keep this format in mind the next time I start a thread like this.

I´m not sure if you´re the only one who thinks so, but I do know that I, too, prefer them a bit shorter. I think it´s because a DB already has more material and "stuff" in the front as is. Making it longer, there´s just too much going on there. That´s my, totally non-technical, simple as they come, explanation for why I prefer them a bit shorter.

Oh, shorter is not my preference. It just bothers me less in this instance.
