Hi everyone. New member and first post. I live in Toronto Canada and was wondering if anyone knows of any good affrodable tailors in the GTA? Looking to have a formal suit made for my wedding. I would like a tailor that is familar with the latest trends. Thanks in advance

Depends what type of the latest trends you want your suit to have. Most tailors in Toronto are older and they make timeless classic suits.

The tailor in this thread seems to have gotten good reviews but am not sure he meets your "trend" criteria:http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/f...hlight=toronto

I have used affordable tailors in Toronto but all of them have generally made a much more classic styled suit. I am sure fellow Torontonians will chime in with their advice.

If I personally were getting married, I would make a stroller from one of Get Smart's Thick As Thieves jackets.

Has anyone had a suit made by Toronto Custom Suits?
http://www.torontocustomsuits.com/

How did it turn out? What was the quality of the suit? How was the service?

I was thinking of trying the lower end material ($495) for a first MTM suit but wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.

Thanks.

Try out Suits in the City. They are event based. I went to them in February and got two suits; they both turned out really well. The prices were incredible too-very, very affordable.

What is your budget?

What do you mean by "latest trends"?

Are you looking for a tuxedo or for a navy or charcoal suit to wear?

Do you want multiple fittings or are you comfortable with a MTM that provides a forward finish (they take your measurements and you get your suit in 5 weeks - only minor alterations are possible)?

What is your timeline?

My definition of affordable is not what you'd have to pay in Toronto. I can't afford to pay $1000+ per suit and because of my body shape, I need custom. My Suits in the City custom suits cost less than $600 each. It was their entry level suit but still, amazing quality.

Congradulations.

I had a suit made by Stoney creek Tailors. I am happy with what I received. Prices run from 600ish for a fused MTM up over 1k if you get fully canvassed with all of the fixins and depending on the fabric chosen.

Herman is the guy to talk to.

+1 for Green Shag. They are cool and will work with you to ensure you are happy with the styling. They are not cheap though. I think they start at $1100-1200, but I believe they are more bespoke than MTM.

Also, GotStyle has great prices for their MTM. I think they offer a fully canvased MTM suit + 2 shirts + tie for $1200 or so. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for MTM in T.O.

Lastly, I must mention Lee Baron. The gentleman there, Bal, is very pleasant and accomodating. However, if you want something a bit fashion-forward you should bring him something to copy- a picture, another suit, etc. Mine from him came out a bit boxy, but I didn't know what the hell I was doing and provided very little instruction. They put together excellent shirts, but you must ask for nicer buttons- the standard ones are absolute crap.

So how does this work? they measure you here and then Peter Lee and his people cut and sew the suit in HK? How much fitting is possible/was required when you got it back?
What fabrics/cost do they offer?

Thanks

No pics avail.

That's exactly how it works. When the suit arrives in Toronto, Bal makes all of the necessary alterations on site- no different than any other tailor after a MTM job. They offer 100's of fabrics. I'm no expert on fabrics, but I have no reason to believe they were inferior in any way. I presume the Toronto location will offer all of the same fabrics that Peter Lee offers in HK- only make sense since all the fabrics must be there anyway.
