How useful is a solid brown flannel sport coat?

I'm wondering if it's worth getting a solid brown sport coat, particularly this one:

I keep a small wardrobe and most of my fall/winter trousers are solid grey. Most of those are flannel. My main concern is that a solid brown flannel jacket with solid grey flannel trousers would look bland. I'm thinking I might be better off sticking with patterned sport coats but I'm interested to hear what others think.

That jacket looks awesome with jeans (or are those navy flannels?) but I'm not so sure about the grey trousers.

Hmmmm was a good year ago. I think they were navy brushed cotton trousers.

The outfit with the grey trousers could have been improved with a better tie choice. It turned out a bit wishy-washy.

Let me have a look around in my photos to see if I can dig anything else out...

I think the key with a jacket like that is it has to very clearly be a sportcoat, if it looks like an orphaned suit jacket, it wont work. Malford's works because it has three patch pockets and likely some texturing. His jacket also looks to be a bit darker in color which also makes it feel more country and adds some contrast to whatever trousers he is wearing.

I have very bland taste and like the jacket.

Brown is a good colour to get moving away from suit colours (navy and greys) and something I find versatile too, especially with medium brown.

Flannel on flannel is something I would personally avoid; however, if the colours are very different, it can work.

I see this as a great base. Use ties, shirts, and squares to "jazz" it up or down. Having a good base is what many do not have. A basic brown SC is next to a blue blazer in versitility and that one fits you great.

Bland is usually better than the alternative.

^ This.

Flannel can be tough. The weave or styling on a solid SC has to ensure that it doesn't look like an orphaned suit jacket.

I have a brown corduroy sport coat that I wear with everything from jeans to dress pants. I think it's very versatile.

Semi-useful. For me, it would probably get a lot of action, but I don't know how many looks you'd be able to fit it into. Think about what you own, and try to figure out what you'd wear it with...not just what you COULD wear it with. What would you actually wear it with? If there's not much, then maybe you should pass on it.

EDIT:

I just realized that it's 3 button...I'm out.

As good as it may be, in my eyes a not-too-rustic tweed sc in the same color would be much more versatile.

I have a brown sportcoat that is very versatile and looks great with grey flannels. It is a darker brown that either of the two pictured in this thread.
