In that case, the best they can do is purchase a gift card on your behalf at 30% discount and then you can use the gift card to buy your Aldens.

True, but the exclusion list changes so it's always a possibility.

My understanding was that almost nowhere allows you to purchase giftcards at discounted prices. J. Crew allows this?

Thought i was done with my J.Crew purchases from this season. But, I managed to pick up a rustic merino elbow patch cardigan in navy, originally $136.00 and was sold out online since November. Got it for $33 tax in at the mall. Seems like it was a christmas return, as it was the only one left and luckily in my size.

True. When I was privy to it, I didn't always see it week in and week out, but my sense was it didn't change dramatically throughout the season.

Having said that, if you have a connection that is near to one of the few retail outlets that carries Aldens, you have a chance at some great discounts, because different stuff is discounted in store versus mail-order, with very little third-party stuff being discounted mail-order.

Shocked the heck out of me, too! Not sure if it applies to all employees or just higher level ones.

my girlfriend works at jcrew factory and they had the suede alden indys on the "60s list" (a weekly list that changes with full price items marked 60 percent off for employees) priced at 200.

unfortunately they make virtually impossible to order unless you see them actually in a store (very few seem to carry aldens in store). the one manager said she could order them at full price and then get a price adjustment, but if the list changed he would no longer honor it.

ive also see the wallace and barnes selvage jeans and barbour jackets on the 60s list.

Copped the Wallace & Barnes lined Gransden jacket for $150 over the weekend...I love it!

My only gripe is that the pockets are in such an awkward angle....its so uncomfortable to put my hands in them.

All coats should have breast pockets...srs.

Got the Wallace and Barnes ludlow suit for $330 total ($107 for the pants and $220 for the jacket). It's unlined, but wasn't final sale so figured I'd pull the trigger and return it if I didn't like it.

Finally was able to grab this today:

https://www.jcrew.com/browse/single_product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441838951&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302031245&nav_type=PRMNAV&bmUID=keL9jLH

They rejected on two separate store searchs.

This 50% off the sale price and free shipping is bad.  Grabbed the New Balance hikers, more 3rd party socks, another CPO:

https://www.jcrew.com/AST/Navigation/Sale/AllProducts/PRDOVR~03328/99103098598/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20+225~~~21+16+4294967107~90~~~~~~~/03328.jsp?isSaleItem=true&isFromSale=true

Was also able to get a bit of a fluke.  Wanted them to do a search for this one:

https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/sweaters/JCrewcashmere/PRDOVR~22759/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20+225~~~16~90~all~mode+matchallany~~~~~cashmere/22759.jsp?isSaleItem=false&isFromSearch=true

They had acorn on sale in an XS online.  So I wanted a medium.  The lady on the phone, who wasn't too nice, said they wouldn't be able to find it when normally they just look.  She made mention of the navy and grey though, but that she didn't know if they'd honor it.  I said I'd take them both if they would, but it's fine if they wouldn't.  So she spoke with the manager at the store again and she was like "yes", so they did it.  So two for less than the price of one.  Navy matches the one I bought for the girlfriend for Xmas.

As for the Aldens, I think the one order was a fluke or down to your charm.  Nice you got them at 20% off, but it depends on who you get on the phone really.  Everytime I see them in sale theyr'e sold out and they won't honor them.  Of course there are those random codes (I think from blogs) that somebody here on SF posts and you can get 20-25%.  I have my two pair:

https://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/JCrewingoodcompany/Alden/PRDOVR~02023/02023.jsp

Have yet to actually wear either pair, but the latter pair is amazing.  Best Aldens on J. Crew, and probably anywhere else, to date.

Gift card idea is great.  Many places allow staff to get them at a discount.  Just depends on how much, but then their staff usually can't use the gift card with their discount.  30% is a pretty generous.

i have two Ludlow shirts of the exact same size, XS.

the midnight blue Ludlow shirt fits be perfect and feels comfortable during movement

the other white Ludlow shirt of the same size feels much tighter at the chest with some slight pull at my shoulders

shouldn't both of the shirt measure the same ?

So I bought a shirt on final sale from J. Crew online, and it came with a pretty big stain on the chest. Will J. Crew honor a return on it? I'm pretty disappointed :/

They will probably give you a store credit for it, but not full refund. Just give it a try and see what happens.

Though, I would try in store and find an SA you feel like is in a good mood lol.

Yeah, I think that's what I'll do... might try to take mark out, but IDK.. I really like the shirt (red heather poplin).

PS- JCrew made major reups on their sale a/w stuff, especially slim fit. Just picked up a tonal green oxford and black heather oxford for $30 each. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Those oxfords are nice, but careful in the wash, because they shrink major.

I know, I'm replacing the ones I got last year that shrunk too much, lol. Even on cold wash and hang drying, too...

Anyone here get a chance to try on their Cowichan sweater? It's been OOS on their website forever but there is a medium available at the moment.
