Fez hats.

I would like to try a fez. However, I am neither a Turk or anything resembling an Arab/Egyptian. I realize the fez has some suggestions of being associated with the Shriners; that is certainly not any intention of mine. Either way, I feel a simple red fez would look nice with a pin-striped double-breasted suit and sunglasses. A compromise, I suppose, would be one of those astrakhan hats such as worn here:

Label King, fez hats are very high style. I think you would enjoy wearing one. I love them on women, too.

I confess that I am no expert, but is not "fez hat" redundant?

Maybe, lawyerdad . . . kind of like 'tuna fish.'

Good point. I confess (I'm in a confessional mood, apparently) that redundancy had not struck me before.

Might not a smoking cap, which is a fez of sorts, be a little more "occidental" than the classic tall fez? Does anybody other than Shriners wear the classic fez anymore since Attaturk banned them?

I don't feel a smoking cap can be worn outside of the home whereas a fez can.

I believe one can see fez hats being worn in Egypt and possibly Morroco.

Sorry, but I can't quit conjuring up an image of Major Hoople. (Not an image that I - at least - aspire to. Hack. Kaff.)

I should think that anyone who remembers Major Hoople would have to be a relative old-timer these days!

I have both a fex and a astrakhan. I have never actaully worn the fez, and I dobn't believe that I have ever seen anyone wear one without being ironic.

That is a shame because a fez could be an interesting piece of headwear without the retro-centric suggestions of a fedora or the out-moded aspects of a bowler.

I suppose the Persian Lamb hat might be the best compromise.

Persian lamb hat? Like a velvet jacket of head gear
