The Banana Republic shoe actually looks decent. The website lists it as having a rubber sole, but from the pictures, it looks to be leather Goodyear-welted. Does anyone have any personal experience with this shoe? I am assuming it is not full-grain leather, but it is relatively inexpensive.

prolly faux stitching on a glued rubber sole designed to look like leather.

These shoes are junk. Aldo level stuff. Perfect for a club where you are gonna get trampled, but thats about their only purpose.

I would definitely want to see these in-person, but if I did purchase them, it would be exactly for the reason above.

I don't know what you do for a living, but maybe I should do that. I make a pretty nice living, but I can't imagine spending up to $800 on one pair of shoes. More power to you my friend. I'd go to Amazon and see if you can find a pair of AE Augusta shoes. I love those!

I starve myself for a new pair of shoes.

But if you can't spend $800 on something you like, that's not a 'pretty nice' living...

I am not rich, but I also don't necessarily like the idea of spending $1000 on shoe even if they will last 10 years. Who cares? I think I would rather spend $400-600 on a pair of shoes that I only wear 2 years. I call it wash rinse and repeat.

Well, income-wise, it's pretty nice living (you'll have to take my word for that), but maybe it's not as nice in the philosophical context that you're bringing up. I think that I just don't value shoes as much as someone who spends that much would. IMO, once you get past a certain price (much less than $800), the value-added to the shoe stops increasing, but that's just me...

I tend to agree. Value is definitely perception.
