Khaki's of Carmel

Was in Carmel CA over the weekend.
Khaki's, the long-etablished men's store,
is having a sale on tailored clothing and other
merchandise. Labels include Caruso, Brioni,
Canali, H. Freeman, and Samuelsohn. Deep
discounts. Very knowledgeable and attentive
staff. My salesman was Mike Gray.

Doubt they

Not sure exactly. I picked up an H Freeman sportcoat for more than 50% off.
I wasn't shown any Samuelsohn, perhaps because it didn't come in my size
or cut preference. A Caruso I liked didn't fit. As for Canali, not usually my
taste. I am a natural shoulder fanatic. Overall, B&S may be a better deal.
I've used it very successfully, but only when I already knew exactly how
a particular model fit me because it was carried by a local retailer. I've
only bought new.

J Lawrence Khakis is one of my favorite men's stores. They always have a great selection of accessories as well as casual/dress clothing. Everything from Edward Green and Luciano Barbera to a wide range of denim, polos, pocket squares, socks and sweaters. Oh, and of course, khakis.

Great staff too!

Actually Gus, you mentioned the store at one of the Meet-Ups or on the Forum
earlier this year I think. I had been there before, but made sure to check them out this visit
to Carmel after your comments. I wish I had time to go through the sweaters, jeans etc.
of which they have a wide selection. I'll going back in August and will make sure to do so.

Not sure. I wear 44R jacket. My friend, who is a 38 short , was interested in a sport coat
or suit. They had nothing for him. Nor do I think that they even stock shorts

If you are anywhere near Carmel, stop in at J Lawrence Khakis. The place is jammed right now with piles of casual and tailored clothing.

With more and more major retailers focusing on just a few big name brands as the foundation of their stores it is nice to see Khaki's going in the exact opposite direction and bringing in edited assortments from hundreds of European and US suppliers. In addition to some classic names like Edward Green, Alfred Sargent, Luciano Barbera, I also saw tons of small, independent brands I don't see anywhere in San Francisco. It is a refreshing mix.

And, if you are looking for a deal, they have a downstairs sale room, with huge markdowns. That room alone has more clothes than many specialty retailers.

I was just there last weekend! Picked some DiBiancos, probably never would've found those shoes if it wasn't for that store. Awesome staff like you said and their selection is unreal.

Yes awesome selection and the staff was very helpful. I was there a few weeks ago and was told by the owner that they would start carrying Gaziano and Girling in the next 3 months.

I was just there on Sunday. I picked up some of their private label khakis made by a mystery old school tailor in Brooklyn (not Greenfield). The fabric and the inner trimming is :inlove:

These are going to be my favorites I can tell. I'm thinking about calling them and ordering the two other shades (they have a light khaki, a medium greenish cast khaki and a darker golden brown color that reminds me of the color of English pub mustard

) The feel of the cotton twill is better than any of the RL or RRL.

I picked some up in August during Concours
week. They're fairly pricey, but fit me perfectly.

So I love my new khaki's from Khaki's and will be ordering some more in different colors. Jim Ockert, the owner, said he will also be introducing an additional new fit for spring that is a bit more trim and slightly lower rise. I like his current modern-classic fit myself. It isn't "Baggy Trad" it is just trim enough to look contemporary but not tight. Here is a pic of the three colors:

I like the addition of his signature gray flannel rear belt loop. It's a cool touch.

The fabric is very comfortable. It has a soft hand but a dense weave.This is a true dress khaki with nice interior trim details..

What's with those guys?
They have a better selection than most shops
in SanFrancisco. They offer a range of options
from H. Freeman to Samuelsohn to Caruso to
Luciano Barbera and Brioni. I've always been pleasntly
surprised. Reminds me of the independent men's
shops that flourished 30+ years ago.
