I have never had a hurt back before. It is crippling.

it is. i have a bad back and it can be miserable.

I am. If there's anyone I want to make decisions using the most complete information possible, including my misbehavior, it's my doctor.

So I just found out my coworker I fell for REALLY hard is almost assured of getting a job halfway around the world and would leave in the next month or so. Which means I will not be asking her out. I'm like legitimately sad right now.

Based on the change in situation, I give you full permission to take her out to "celebrate her new job" and **** the living hell out of her.

Yep. I feel you. Haven't been able to turn my neck left/lean it back for about two weeks now.

Does your doctor really do this? I'd find a new one. Seriously, judgement from a doctor is not okay, if for no other reason than the fact that it encourages exactly the behavior you describe in your post.
.

All my doctors have been like that. My dentist bitches me out for drinking tea (which is perfectly healthy) because it turns my teeth brown, unlike coffee which would SHUT DOWN MY ******* KIDNEY.
My GP saw my knuckles were busted open and nagged me about anger managment for about ten minutes and how young people never manage to keep their cool before I could explain that my boss had raised an anvil without telling me and I'd ACCIDENTALLY punched an anvil while swinging a hammer.
My Urologist, who is a dickhead, saw a scar from an old surgery and thought it was self harm when I was going into surgery to get a stent put in. When he was slowly pulling it out (2 ******* foot long rubber hose) he was lecturing me until I finally pointed out the stitch marks and the fact its symmetrical on both sides of the joint.

The worst part is I have no idea how I got it. Funnier thing is my girlfriend has it to. Is back pain an STD?

We know it isn't if you both have it ;)

I suppose it could be if you acquire it during "relations" where you had to adjust to accommodate your partner's bad back!

You have GRID.
Lower back pain can be debilitating.

That's insane to me. I'm not saying my doctors don't tell me there are things I should/shouldn't do, but I've never felt judged by a doctor (and it'd be my last visit with them if I ever did). Hell, I started a new med last year, and I asked my doc about side effects/interactions, including alcohol. She said, "nope no problem with alcohol," and then we wound up talking about wine and beer. She concluded by saying a drink can be a good thing because we have to do what makes us happy, and having a drink is fun. There was a note on not overdoing it, but that was it.

It seems to me that there's a real danger in judgmental doctors, given it could lead patients to omit critical information.

The only thing that trumps back pain is gallstone, that **** makes appendicitis feel like a walk in the park.

I've heard that about kidney stones, too. I'm very, very thankful they're not problems I've ever had, because back pain can be pure hell.

Well, I had a kidney tumor that ruptured. That was ******* dibilitating. I was screaming in the back seat of my car thrashing around.

Nope didn't go to the doctor. My mother made me. Good thing.

I have a great doc who was ranked third best in the state. Nice guy who gets right down to business without any superfluous chit-chat, and no judgment. He recognized a condition that most docs thought I was too young to have, which led to a lifesaving surgery. Unfortunately, he's retiring this month. :( I'll miss him.

not going to equate my kidney problems with yours but I will agree that it is nothing short of amazing how a ******* oversized bean somewhere in my back that I'd never been aware of caused me that much pain for as long as it did. I've broken probably 30 bones and I've never puked from pain before my first major kidney stone.

My doctor told me my kidney meds wouldn't make me sick, because that wasn't a listed side effect. I told him I threw up pretty much every time I took them, he told me I was wrong.

Stones suck, but except for the more alarmingly huge ones I've had I never feel them til they hit my ureters.

I was thinking about this yesterday and it dawned on me... Who is actually honest with their doctor about their drinking, or anything else for that matter?

I absolutely do not tell my doctor the truth about anything, especially my drinking behaviours.
