So I had a bit of a disappointment yesterday.
There is a **** ton of work that needs to be done. Termites, roof, back deck is rotted through, kitchen is hideous, no real garden...

Termites are a big deal, dude. Make sure that ****'s double and triple checked.

Termites???
Forget about it..

This.

It sounds like there's a lot of work to be done, which is a hassle and a lot less enjoyable than it appears when you're planning, but you can manage that if you're willing. Termites, on the other hand, are an enormous red flag.

Yeah, he was saying it'll need a real good inspection. And probably another 40K work spread out over a big period of time... And I would definitely take in roommate(s) to help pay for ****. eff. em. el.

Don't do it, Ed. I know you want a house, but it really sounds like you're letting your emotions cloud your judgment. Houses can be money pits in the best of circumstances, and a house like this can be ruinous if you're not in a position to deal with it.

When it comes to house repairs, "$40k" translates to more like "$50-55k."

Yeah, I know. There is some truth to this except the emotions.

The first one I was looking at is being flipped so I may still be able to get a good deal on it. Although I haven't seen the dude there working on it for a few weeks. Dunno what that means...

I woke up, printed out my notes, put them in my best interview folder and got dressed in the manner most appropriate to a college professor I could conceive of for this debate, hauled ass to class, studied on the bus, then realized today is wednesday, not thursday, when I have the class the debate is in. Also, I'm wearing the only appropriate clothes that aren't already at the tailor.

Also, there is a lady sitting next to me in a very crowded auditorium. Her coat is so huge its taking up an entire seat with her purse, the rolly backpack she is using is taking up one on the other side of her, and the ******* TRIPOD SHE HAS HER LAPTOP ON IS TAKING UP A THIRD TO HER RIGHT. There are kids sitting on the stairs in between the seats, and you're taking up four ******* seats? DIE.

There's no such thing as hot nurses or doctors, it's a lie made up by Hollywood, I have spent a lot of time in hospitals and I think I have seen one of each tops.
Now we are on the subject of doctors, my phone number is one digit from a GP and people keep miscalling and I have to explain to people that I'm not a doctor and for some reason, the people who call that doctor has a combined IQ of 5.
I got a voice mail a while back, from an alcoholic wanting antabus and it went on for 5 minutes.

When I was applying to West Point I had to go down to MacGuire AFB for a physical. I got an air force doctor, who in retrospect was maybe 25, and smoking ******* hot. She was also the least professional doctor I've ever met.

She was laughing her ass off when she asked me to drop my boxers so she could check for hernias or whatever, and I'd forgotten to take my barbell out so she spent like five minutes asking me if it hurt, what it was like, etc. When I was 17. Which she should have known from my chart. She actually pinkie promised not to put a note about the barbell in my chart. A military doctor. A Pinkie Promise. Like from when you were five.

Let them go. SF is a weird place. Most folks on here are kind of fucked up to begin with - that's why we make "friends" on the internet
I don't have 20 friends I'd consider close that I text with on a regular basis.

You're a good, decent fellow, and will attract other good, decent people.

A) true of me, certainly.
B) Its a band, right?
C) five. Three if you don't count my sister and my fiancee, and the other three have all known me at least 12 years.
D) I don't know 'bo that well, but I'm very much inclined to agree with your assessment of him.

Thanks for the kind words guys :slayer:

Aggravating only, but I feel like venting about this **** all the same:
I have a number of SF'ers that I've made "friends" with over the past year or so and try to maintain and build on these "friendships" frequently. I text these people every so often to see how they're doing, make conversation, try to be "friends", etc.. I'm talking 20+ people too, so it actually requires a bit of thought to sort all this **** out. A few of them I've been lucky enough to talk with over the phone. Other than maybe 4 people, 2 of which aren't even on the ******* forum and quit after the switch over to humbler, nobody even bothers to ask me a god damn thing about myself. The ones that I've tried to make friends with, even met, are even more disappointing. I honestly wonder why I bother with some of these people.

Uh... you know these are a bunch of strangers on the internet right? I've had the good fortune to make a couple of good friends and some acquaintances that happened to be SF members but I certainly didn't seek out friendships from here. The people you talk to on the phone are probably on the same boat. As you should too. I love Connemara but if he were to call me to catch up I'd be all like :uhoh: but would go boozing with him anytime :slayer:

So you're going to spend half the price of the house in repairing it? Once repaired will it really be worth 120k?

No, I'll negotiate it down a bit but... its a foreclosure so its already really cheap and the average sale price in the neighborhood is 200k. When discussing the mortgage with the guy at the bank (his office is literally right around the block) said it would accrue equity almost right away. IRDK.

So I had a bit of a disappointment yesterday.
The house I am looking at it 85k, not sure where I got the 60k from. But that's still a great deal and a huge house.
That's disappointment one .
My landlord and I go look at it yesterday (he used to restore homes). There is a **** ton of work that needs to be done. Termites, roof, back deck is rotted through, kitchen is hideous, no real garden...
Some of them aren't that big a deal. The kitchen I knew about and most of it can be done with grunt work which I can do so that's not too bad plus I want to have a project like that. The rest of the rooms are quite nice and the floors are level so that's good news. The garden problem can be somewhat rectified because there is a little parking deck next to the deck. Figure if the deck has to be ripped up (and it does) might as well rip up the parking pad and park on the street (which isn't that big a deal to me) and put in some soil where the carport once was.
My dreams. they keep getting crushed.

The "huge house" is 85K? What the ****? Parking spaces go for more money than that here.

Rambo, don't feel bad. I only text Kyle when I'm drunk...or send him pictures of some killer bottle of wine I'm drinking at someplace fabulous.
