Namor, I don't care what anybody says on the topic, but the EG Galway is the best boot by any manufacturer by far.

The 82 and 888 versions can be worn to the boardroom or into the garden or on a fishing trip.

The M64 would be great in battle dress when you are busy invading some recalcitrant nation, and, not only that, it would also look good in a Luttwyche suit when you present the other side with their minimal acceptable terms of surrender.

A very versatile boot, and this boot is the last remaining reason I am still a client of Edward Green.

Here is my fully lined Galway on the 888 last with full double leather sole (not the HAF sole either, this bruiser has the full double leather sole) :-

Edward Green tells everyone who asks "sorry Sir, we don't make Galways that way sir" and everyone believes them. Part of that declining service everyone has been complaining about lately.


Lucky for me I have bought Galways from EG during a time long before Hillary took over. The result? I don't argue with Helen in Northampton, I simply send her my old pair of Galways and tell her "I don't care what you call those, they are Edward Green MTO and I need a new pair exactly like them" - to date she has not said "sorry Sir we don't produce that combination".

If you try to order that combination off the cuff from Helen at Northampton, or from Christopher at Jermyn Street, or any other EG dealer, your response will be "Oh sorry Sir, we don't manufacture that combination here at Edward Green Sir", which is a load of B/S.

Skyvalet1 used to be able to order a fully lined Galway with HAF sole, which is 75% of the way there. The full double sole was always the problem, not the full lining. I see Skyvalet1 has also cut back on Edward Green, they seem to be experiencing the same legendary bad service these days.

Next time you order Galways Namor, give me a ring, I will see what I can do.

I usually have a new pair in my cupboard and my old pair gets sent back for refurb. I refurb just before the first layer of the sole wears through and I get EG to refurb with the medway sole. This then becomes my second boot for the rough stuff, and they are like a second skin, friggin awesome! A Medway sole over a full leather sole which already has the flex of your foot from a long period of wear - seriously, you can't beat them.

I usually end up with 2 pairs in the 888 last, my new pair and the refurb. One pair for business wear and the other for rough stuff. The third pair goes up on eBay.

The color combination of your Galway is what I was hoping for on the AS MTO. Would have jumped on it if the shaft was dark brown pebble instead of suede.

Yes, either that or a darker cordovan. Suede will not last as long as the cordovan, which is my only real reservation. Still, while it lasts, the suede looks absolutely stunning.

What you need to consider, as Namor correctly points out, is that the price of the AS is a real consideration and could cancel the issues concerning the suede.

Another improvement on a 2-tone boot like the AS pre-order is punch detail between the border of the two colors, which always looks good. The Shannon by EG done for Daks is a good example of this. I think there is a couple of examples in the EG appreciation thread somewhere.

I was going to make the same suggestion on the AS MTO. Some sort of brown pebble grain shaft would be great!

Realy quite nice, Meistser.

I thought this was slightly humorous. The last two times I did a MTO from EG, I e-mailed them two weeks after the quoted lead time to inquire about the status. I received these replies one or two days later:

"Your shoes arrived into the store this morning and will be shipped this afternoon, you must of sensed something!"

"That's spooky! They arrived in our store this morning and we hope to send them out to you later this afternoon."

I'm beginning to think they just forgot to send them to me. Either that, or I have a sixth shoe-sense. At any rate, my nightshade Westminster's are finally coming.
