hate to beat a dead horse but yeah, the straps are flimsy and even a bit uncomfortable. :(

Actually I decided to return my weekender. After actually carrying stuff in it, I found it unsatisfactory because of the straps. A shame it was so nice looking too.

Seconded. I am beginning my senior year of college this fall and am in the market for a new backpack, something to replace my old and rather unstylish North Face. Really glad I stumbled upon this thread and the discussion of Everlane backpacks! They look great, are affordably priced, and have the SF stamp of approval. I had been considering a backpack from Duluth Pack, but at $165, it was quite a bit more than I wanted to pay. At a third of the price, these Everlanes seem like a steal, so I'm excited to get my hands on one. It will be my first Everlane purchase, and I'm sure it won't be my last.

Thenanyu, please keep my in the loop on the backpacks! I want to get one as soon as possible to avoid missing out, and hopefully to have before my semester starts the fourth week of August. I'll send you a PM and check this thread frequently. :slayer:

3rd week of aug here as well.

I usually carry a lot of **** in bp, so I need some with some size durability. Any idea what the dimensions of the new backpacks will be? Furthemore will they have laptop padding?

Also, why can't I navigate to the backpack page from the Everlane website homepage? I can only get there from the link someone posted a few pages back... https://www.everlane.com/collections/backpacks

I guess it's in the "secret shop" area of the website? I can't access that because I haven't invited any friends... but I can still access the backpack page from the link. Do I have to invite friends and gain my own access to the secret shop to be able to order a backpack?

From an earlier reply by nan:

New features in the backpacks:
- better waxed canvas material
- more reinforced stitching on the straps, we had a couple of strap blowouts in QA, so we added extra stitching.
- higher quality liner
- padded laptop sleeve
- more leather details
- water bottle pocket

So yep, padded laptop sleeve. Water bottle pocket is a plus as well.. I just hope it can hold my 32 oz Nalgene bottle.

Because the mass market isn't as educated as styleforum folks. We have to go with the trend on this one.

this is also applicable to the complaints regarding the "flimsy"-ness of the straps. most regular folk wouldnt notice/complain as much and people will be buying it at a relatively lower pricepoint in comparison to other mall-brand labels and can chalk it up to you get what u pay for

i personally dont like the straps as they are but realistically everlane is making most of its money outside of SF. lets all pray and hope the backpacks turn out better! 65 is higher than 50, but still a damn good deal (esp with those added extras like more leather trimming, padded laptop sleeve)

i'm in for 2 backpacks so nan let us at em :slayer:

Except using the "lack of knowledge among the non-insider masses" as an excuse or even an explanation for design decisions runs against a core part of everlane's reason for being, which is to offer exactly that sort of education.

i thought the point of everlane was to give you products at the lowest cost possible without the outrageous markup from advertising, branding, middlemen, retail stores, etc
