Do you really think 8 hours would have made that big of difference with the the type of surgery shown? All the machine did was staple her shut.

Speaking as the spouse of someone who has had abdominal surgery twice, 8 hours is about enough recovery time for the patient to raise her head a couple of inches and ask for a sip of water.

From what I read the 8 hours entailed more than stapling heh, and yeah, a half minute montage representing 8 hours of that machine doing what it does while the Alien is wreaking havoc would have definitely made a huge difference as far as suspension of disbelief goes.

Best take I read on the surgery scene involved the fact that they didn't simply invent some kind of magical healing goo. The movie is set in the future and is Sci-Fi. The audience would have completely bought the fact that they had a new healing/pain numbing technology for emergency surgeries like that.

Instead of going the extra steps to be creative and put some thought into this scene, the writers had the machine do a quick stapling of the wound. At most this would have held together the outer tissue layers with her insides on the verge of bursting out.

I saw Aliens again.

I really have to say, it was horrible. It was more of an "action packed thrill ride" than a horror movie. How can you go from a movie like Alien to having a child in the mix for cute and tender scenes, and flying away from explosions? The heavy handed feminist message was too overt. The dialogue was awful. What I wouldn't give to sit next to Ridley Scott as he watched it for the first time.

James Cameron is such a hack. The only thing he's ever made that I liked was Terminator 2.

Ummm, Aliens is not a horror movie. Was this some kind of major revelation to you upon re-watching it?

No one, including Cameron, ever claimed it was supposed to be horror. It's a Sci-Fi action flick with some reasonably scary moments thrown in for good measure. The film is one of the few sequels to ever change genre successfully. It feels very much like it's own film yet fully connected to its predecessor.

I also believe it to be the superior film of the two, but I know I am a minority in this and would rather not get into that debate.

I liked Aliens, but yeah, wouldn't go so far as to call it superior to Alien. Alien, Alien 3, Aliens, and everything else can get shoved into crapville as far as I'm concerned.

I really think Alien 3 got a bad rap. Did the original justice IMO, and ended (should have ended) the series nicely. Also thought the K-9 Xenomorph variety was totally badass.

Agree. The scene where Dillon (I think) is preaching about "new life" juxtaposed with the dog convulsing and ultimately giving rise to a chestburster is haunting and awesome. The setting of a futuristic prison camp is pretty brilliant. And there's even some steampunk culture thrown in for good measure.

Yeah, I think as time passes this one will be shown in a more favorable light after people have forgotten the box office flop that it was.

I think it's an ideal example of how to make a movie. Everything about it was really, really well-done and it's just downright entertaining. Newt wasn't there for the 'cute and tender scenes' (she's pretty hardened to begin with) and nothing about her was anything like most melodramatic Hollywood crap that relies on the simple presence of a child for some kind of readymade emotion (which is what I assume you were alluding to). Likewise with Ripley's character I don't see the 'feminist message' at all and usually even a hint of such things tends to ruin movies for me. The dialog is also one of the movie's strongest points. By calling it 'awful' I can't imagine you have any sense of what good dialog is. The movie is just excellent on so many levels and from so many different perspectives.

I can't disagree more with everything you said here, and you've really said nothing substantial anyway.

alien 3 director's cut is a lot better, and the extended addition of aliens adds a lot too

I love Aliens! The Ripley character did it for me. She´s such a strong character and the way she is portrayed is just perfect. What a badass woman.

And the woman lead in Prometheus was so ******* horrible. I was pulling for white Shaq to pull her ******* head off when she started whining to him and asking all those questions.
