Cheaney

I have a pair of wonderfully comfortable black vintage UK shoes for Alan McAfee c 1950/60s. They have a lovely shaped last. Usually McAfees are Churchs but I see now they are Cheaneys. Thanks for clearing that up! What is the model you have?

Is this the Cheaney Imperial range?

Can you comment on the quality, how is it compare to Crockett handgrade?

I tried on a pair and it fits me really well, no lacing gap and seem comfortable from the fiddleback waist, but not sure about their leather quality

These are Fenchurch part of the Cheaney classics collection and I got them at Herring Shoes. They are indeed very comfortable. As you mentioned, Mcafee was indeed bought out by Church's a while back but they were great shoes on their own as well.

No they are from the Cheaney Classics line. They are very comfortable from the first wear. I would love to own a pair of from the Imperial line but have not found a source for them.

Quality wise, leather is thinner than CJ handgrade and not as supple hence the price different. However, the finish is clean and outstanding, and the leather responses well to polishing.

Sounds like I should get a pair, there are websites and shops in London (one in Bow Lane) which carries the imperial line

I can do thin leather, corthay is bloody thin and they are consider as one of the best under £1000

Yeah you always have an option to return as well. And when I said thin, its on marginal so I don't think it should not be a reason not to give it a try

In terms of non British shoes, yes on that price region, interesting last, nice colouring, soft albeit thin leather, although they have a very minor stitching problems

1930s/early40s Crosby Square Spade shoes size 11D. British Tan. Probably first time they have been worn in 60 years...very comfortable!
