Interviews coming up

Hi gentlemen!

So the event for which I joined this forum last year is finally beginning to come to reality. I am going to apply to several big law firms from the Montrà al area in the upcoming weeks and I will have to buy my first suit.

I have been given a budget of 500-600$ to spend on that suit, preferably navy from what I am gathering.

Now, I have a few questions:

1) What shirt/tie combo? All the ties that I have are striped and not really nice, so I'll buy a new one. The only nice fitting shirt that I have is a T&A (bought off a member at a low price, I'm not rich) blue herringbone weave. The problem is that I don't know if french cuffs are appropriate for an interview as I am 20 years old (different system in Quà bec; no need for a previous B.A. before law school) and I don't want to appear too dandyish.

2) Are pocket squares prohibited under these circumstances?

3) Given the fact that I am a rather rare size around here (36 chest), it will be hard to find a suit on discount. How long do you think a fused shirt in that price-range can last me without looking totally bad? If I concentrate on fit (which is what I'll do), will it be obvious that it is a rather cheap suit?

As for the shoes, I'll go with some black one that are not too clunky.

There are a multitude of threads on interview attire. I had a similar question a little while ago and a search yielded answers to all of my questions.

Pocket squares should not be worn to an interview; I believe french cuffs are unecessary as well and should be avoided if possible. If that really is all you have and you are intent on wearing it, wear silk knot links as opposed to something flashy/garrish. Shirt should be white or light blue with a dark navy, dark gray, or black suit. Tie should be red/burgundy or navy.

Alot of places are having big sales right now (department stores, boutiques, etc.) so it is a great time to hurry out and get a new suit. If worse comes to worse, and you really need something fast at a cheap price, Zara is having a sale right now. Their fits are great, but quality is not so great. With the sale, however, they have a multitude of wool/cashmere blended suits at $120 a piece. You can't really go wrong for that price.......check it out.

Unless your interviews are in the evening, I recommend a gray suit over a navy. You'll get more wear out of it.
