I've been eyeballing some Trickers.  Never owned a pair myself.  Are they on par with Crocett & Jones?

No. My Islays are far superior to the not-Stowe Stowes, especially the leather. Are they $200 better? Indeed.

I've been eyeballing some Trickers.  Never owned a pair myself.  Are they on par with Crocett & Jones?  I am finding Alden products just are not made as well as some of these English Boot/Shoe company's and so I'll pass.  My real need is Cordo Chucka double sole TTS US 9 1/2.  And some decent Long Wings also Cordo.  Enjoy the long weekend all.

Own both the Islay and the Stow. Both are great boots with the Islay being more elegant (meaning sleeker last) whereas my Stow boots are hardier (thicker leather uppers).

Also own numerous Alden shell boots. My opinion is that they are generally well made (specifically talking construction) but a different genre compared to C&J.

Depends on what you're looking for in a boot; however, I am happy with all my boots and wear them pretty regularly.

I have a narrower heel and a wider foot. I measure about an 11 on the brannock so I tried an 11D from RL. They were snug, but not horribly so. The problem I fear was to be the heel. If I detect any slippage in a shoe, I send it back. I have had some (expensive) previous failures with AE/Alden cordovan in this regard. I thought about trying a 10.5 as many sized down a half size, but I am pretty positive it will be too tight. I figure when I go to New York, I will drop by C&J and see what they deem my size to be in the 325 last. After that, perhaps I will try again.
