You got reeled into the "go AEs" and more specifically "Park Aves" that prevail here and on other sites.
From personal experience, unless your feet are abnormal try another brand. Find the brand that works for you. Forum approved or not.
If you look forward to wearing them and they don't cripple you, you win.

He never said he was 'reeled in'; never said they were uncomfortable or 'crippling him' and what you have typed is utter nonsense.

Read between teh lines, MOL. It was implied.

Here's what prolly happened:

OP got the shoe buying bug by purchasing a good pair of shoes at a price he could bear.
He then wanted to continue the high he was riding so he sought to buy a subsequent pair.
In searching (or asking) he was steered in the direction most shoe noobs are to AEs, PAs specifically, cause, "you can't go wrong with a pair of AE PAs in black".
OP searched online and found a pair within a reasonable price threshold.
Upon receiving them, that high he was riding abated because he now knows what the rest of us who have moved away from AE knows: they're horrible.
OP makes thread.
I have confirmed what he has suspected or subsequently found out.
OP will prolly never buy AEs again.

Moral: don't listen to dudes who tell you to buy AEs. Save up for a better [looking] pair of shoes.

I would recommend one find a brand that works for you. If it's AE, so be it.

FWIW, I never owned a pair of Lobbs and doubt I never will. They don't call out to me no matter what the forum says.

I have a pair of Church's Custom Grade Monk shoes that I bought in Paris after walking round all day, and I also had relatively thick socks on when I bought them (REALLY stupid mistake).... they're probably half a size too long, and definately too wide. I can JUST get away with them with thick insoles in them, but I have no real 'attachment' with the shoe like I have with the two pairs of C&J's that I have. I can't bring myself to sell them either, since they were the first pair of high end shoes I bought (and they were something like 450 euro)

Best to let the OP himself tell us what happened instead of assuming. Wouldn't you agree?

AE's are not horrible and you are being a jerk. Give it a rest already. Your childish and redundant trolling will never result in one less sale of AE's and I am wearing a pair of AE's just to spite your insolence.

You can predict with certainty what anyone will or will not buy in the future? That is too ridiculous to even respond to.

Such as what? Why have you not provided specific alternatives and, feature by feature, described their differences and superiority to the Park Avenues?
Moral is: you are exceptionally lazy (not mentioning irresponsible) with your words and have suggestd nothing to help the OP. I am sorry but this is true.
Please stop trolling and start contributing. You should know better than this; you who know so much, we await your suggestions.

I would be willing to wager none of those caps are AEs. Amirite?
You are correct. But (he crosses himself and begs forgiveness) one pair is Alden. But I keep it in a sacristy at an Episcopal Church for those occasions I must don my DB Anglican Cassock.

That said, I'm sure there are a pair or two of AE's in the shoe collection ... just not of the black cap toe variety. I'm thinking a Cody or two and a Ft. Lauderdale (or is it Norfolk?) or two ... both with a woven vamp.

Wait...you own the Claremont?
Not I. Haven't been to the hotel in couple of years ... but had dinner at the CCC last week. Puts the hotel to shame.

Wait, what? :wow:
I take it that some of you do not remember a few of our more venerable long standing members who are mostly absent today. I seem to remember one with 300+ pairs. And how many pairs does Aportnoy have? Perhaps more than 300 for all I know.

And doesn't Foo have 50 or some odd number of the same 'one' shoe? ;)

the most is paid for a pair of shoes is probably $350. i dont have regrets because that doesn't really smack my bank balance in the face. if i got some lobbs or gaziano etc... i would have more than my bank balance to worry about (angry wife!)

+ 1, nothing wrong with a pair of AE's. They are not to everyone's liking, but in in the under $500 budget, I cannot think of a better brand of shoes than them.

I remember Aportnoy. Good God, he had a lot of shoes.
I'm hoping he still has them. I don't see him here any more ... but I hesitate to speak of anything more than his membership in the past tense.

I realize not everyone can justify the up-front cost of owning a great pair of shoes. So they go AE. Hopefully one day you'll see what I mean.

i bought a reeealy pretty pair of antiqued brown zegna couture loafers. even got a pretty good deal on 'em. sadly i have almost no use right now for such a pair of shoes. to be honest now that i have learned a little i have no idea what to wear them with. so for now i kinda regret the purchase. maybe when i figure out what to do with them that will change. pic below.
