Any One for a Scotch?

Has anyone tried the Triplewood yet? Bought a bottle the other night, but have not opened it yet..

Yeah, you can't hide it if youve been drinking an Islay. You can smell it as soon as you enter the room, even if it's just one dram. My wife always knows when I've been out after work

Last couple nights have been, Bruichladdich Rocks, Dalwhinnie 15 from 1980 (which i found underwhelming) and Macallan 12. Sherried highlands always end up enjoyable to me, and the Bruichladdich made a successful attempt and bring myself back to Islay whisky. The Dalwhinnie 15 1980 disappointed.

I wanted to like the Dalwhinnie 1980 alot since it was a gift, but I found it almost unbearable to drink.

Have any of your guys tried Kilchoman Machir bay or Sherry cask?

I'm pretty new to scotch, and so far I've had Glenlivet 12 and 18, Glenfiddich 12, Macallan 12, and Laphroaig Half-Cask, which was like drinking a cigar, but I loved it! I realize I've only had a couple Highlands scotches and one Islay. Just wondering if anyone could recommend any others to try out next!

I love Macallan, so if and when you are ready to try more, look for the 15 and my favorite, the 18, its a bit expensive, so don't rush on this. You will appreciate it much more when you get a good acquired taste for scotch. A few others to try out.. in between the 12-15 year range.

Oban 14 (my personal favorite and go-to scotch)
My most recent new one that I am enjoying.. Bruichladdich The Laddie Ten Year. After a solid two years of drinking the more popular scotches, I am finally starting to get into the less well known scotches just to keep my interest going. If you liked the Laphroiag, you will enjoy this scotch. It isn't at peaty, but it packs a punch and still gives a smooth finish. Delicous!

I like it, assuming the price is right. I have a bottle open now in the cabinet.

Any recommendations for a guy who's only had Glenlivet 12 and loves it? I've had Bowmore 12, and didn't like it at all. Think it's the peat that I couldn't do.

Craggenmore12 , Macallen 18, maybe...Highland Park 12..

I think the entry level Oban is a 10 year? That was a good step. Also, the Macallan Cask strength.

Whats the deal with cask strength? Is it just a stronger drink or is there a "taste" that goes along with it? What would you say a good price on the Lap triple wood is? We've been enjoying this:



very fruity, drinks easy.

Whisky is generally aged in casks at something higher than it's final proof. It is then diluted with water for final bottling, usually to 80 proof.

Cask strength just means they didn't do this diluting--they bottle it as it is out of the cask.

Since I've seen you write "Craggenmore" a couple times already-- plus you're usually very precise --and Google yields 220k results, is it just a typo or can you write it both ways (the other being Cragganmore)? Same for Macallen (although I didn't notice it before).

I enjoy the Triple Wood. I for one couldn't say that it's worth more than, say, Quarter Cask though.

The Macallan is definitely Macallan, not Macallen.

And the quarter cask is my daily dram. Love that stuff.
