I've been working on this on and off in my spare time for a while now - a collection of images from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s of some of the more notorious and well-dressed racketeers, gamblers, gangsters, etc. I originally thought it would be a great idea to collect some of the images that I'd seen in various books. Then I started reaching out to authors of various underworld histories for rare photographs, which they were usually very happy to and generous enough to share with me. Then I thought it would be great to add a few essays on some of the more colorful characters of the era. I only recently put the whole thing into decent enough shape that I thought it would be worth printing a draft copy for myself:

That's what I call style from Dirty Harry himself Clint Eastwood in 1971.

Anybody remember the original UK Whose Line is it Anyway? with Clive Anderson? He knows style.

Pictured with Greg Proops, Josie Lawrence, Tony Slattery (I don't know is he related to John Slattery of Mad Men), and Mike McShane who' sitting in the picture.

Clive in the later years of the show.

The late Jonathan Frid as Barnabas on the original Dark Shadows had style!

Pierce Brosnan in his Remington Steele heyday in the 1980s. Looking sharp and tailored!

The late veteran English actor Simon MacCorkindale was a stylish actor. He was Manimal!

I would love a better shot of the overcoat. Looks like a camelhair polo but I wonder what is the actual color.

I have a belted greatcoat kind of like that, but with Raglan sleeves. It's gray melton from the 80s
by Invertere.

BTW, Who is that?

Arthur Treacher, Bela Lugosi and Ed Sullivan

I kind of like it that Treacher has his hands in his coat pockets. I liked him on the Merv Griffin show before he made fish and chips.
