ZS is wearing a scarf, inside of his open collar. I think that looks much more chic, than an ascot.

I never figured it out. I bought one on a whim and have never worn it.

It's funny what people's affectation sensibilities are. I reallly don't see anything that could possibly be wron with an ascot other than the social bias in the United States. In and of itself, there really is nothing more or less affected about an ascot that about a tie. Cary Grant's scarf, yes, but he was Cary Grant.

On the other hand, people feel fine walking around with wildly colored and striped socks. To me, this would be absolutly impossible as it seems both affected and incompatible with looking good. Nevertheless, it is generally seen as OK by just about everybody.

Perhaps, I will never "get it"

Wear it to Gibsons's Bar or Boystown. Everyone will like it there and no one will judge you

Not a winner for me. To top it off, he's wearing what appears to be a t-shirt under it. (Or is that a fine sweater?) Not one of his better outfits in my opinion.

I'm picturing how much more turned out, CG would have looked, MINUS the neckwear, and the pocket square. That, would have been perfect.

I like how they look.

They seem to make more sense in cooler weather /climate.
but I have seen pictures where they are in warm as well.

1. a tan would help
2. older is probably better
3. context is crucial

I like iamatts suggestion -ithink with a sportcoat it could look great. I can't reall see it fitting in academia in the mid -west.

Perhaps a bit too much with the square, but then again perhaps not. Any grades on an early experiment?

You're wearing it low, like Diddy.

When I see an ascot in an ad or photospread, I think they look good....I've seen some Euro guys at our weekenders that look good wearing them, but it's something that I wouldnt ever consider wearing.....until I'm 60

Too costumey and theatrical to me. It can look dashing but in a broadway kind of way.
