I follow a somewhat Paleo methodology as a way to manage my Diabetes. It works extremely well. Add in some moderate exercise and you'd be hard pressed to know I was diabetic based on my blood work. It's not an extreme diet, it's not that hard to follow. I cook a lot for myself and my meals basically revolve around:
protein, simply prepared: beef, chicken, pork, occasionally fish, salt & pepper, olive oil, fresh herb of some sort, shallots, garlic, red wine pan sauce.
vegetable: sauteed greens & bacon, roasted asparagus, brussel sprouts or even broccolli/cauliflower if I'm really lazy.
a piece of fruit for dessert, if I want it.
Glass of red wine.
It's not completely paleo, but it keeps my carb count pretty low, my blood glucose doesn't rise much over 150, and for the most part, my numbers stay around 100 or a little bit below.
All I'm doing is avoiding flour, sugar, and most starchy veggies, or keeping them to a minimum.
I do buy the paleo cookbooks because they occasionally have some good meal ideas.
