it's super ghetto, but in TST you can stay in any of the guest houses in Chung King Mansion at 44 Nathan Rd. A bunch of Indian/Pakistanis/Nigerians will accost u as soon as you walk past and solicit you with rooms. Very cheap.

+1, Though do be warned, super ghetto is an understatement.

Also, you could say that you visited/slept in a piece of movie history.

no, it's safe. You will have a small windowless room with a small private bathroom.

Safe is a relative term.

HK is a fabulous and fun city and you'd don't want to ruin it sleeping there. go to the YMCA in TST.

Chungking Mansions actually isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. I was in there a few months ago and the sleaze factor is way down.

That said, it's still pretty ghetto. If you have 20-25 bucks you can swing a decent room at any number of guesthouses in either Kowloon or Hong Kong Island.

But if you're there for only a night stay steal someone's credit card on Nathan Road and use it to stay at the Peninsula.

Can't imagine how it used to be.

ahh, I did a night there a few months back. Got in late, SPB Lady got in the next morning and her company was putting us up somewhere nice, I went, I slept, I left.

I wouldn't rush back, and I am a long way off actually recommending the place, but if you are desperate to spend almost nothing and just sleep a few hours off, it's not so bad.

When I'm in HK, I always stay at Dragon Hostel, Room 707, 7/F Sincere House, 83 Argyle Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It's HK$210 a night or HK$240 if you want en-suite. It's clean, a good deal less ghetto than Chungking Mansions, and best of all no persistant tailor, hashish and fake Rolex touts everywhere. http://www.dragonhostel.com/ I find the TST part of Nathan Road to be such a hateful place and is strictly for unwitting tourists, much prefer Mong Kok. This is real 'Hong Kong' IMO.
