I hear microsoft will make the update mandatory soon.
As far as a stable program with no glitz, you have just described FireFox. Check out the plugins for FireFox as well as there are a few good ones you might want to use. Make sure to download from a CONFIRMED source.

I started this thread. Right now I'm running IE ver. 6, with MS Office 2003 Outlook as my Email program.
I'm considering downloading Firefox and giving it a try, after what I've been reading. But what about my Email? Could I use Firefox with MS Office 2003 Outlook as my Email client program? Would that be a bad idea? Why?
I know could use Thunderbird as my Email program and import everything from Outlook. Would that be a good idea? What are peoples experiences with Thunderbird. Especially compared to Outlook!
I'm not a computer person but as I said in the original thread start, I really believe MicroSoft is vindictive in a sense, and they really make it difficult if you use other software. Remember I'm not a techie!
