It's hard to believe that such a standard offering would be discontinued, the plain toe blucher, or derby as it were, being a staple of most rtw shoe manufactures for over a century.

I don't think the OP was implying that c&j are discontinuing Ashdown and all bluchers completely, just the shell model. Most c&j shell shoes have or had calf leather equivalents.

TBH I think the rtw shell range needs a bit of a shake up, the shoe list has been pretty static for a while now, no brogue blucher at all and any additions to the list have been c&j shop only exclusives.

Have Ashdown in shell but would love to see a rtw Chepstow chukka in shell, mto c&j are so expensive they may aswell not bother offering the service.

Was recently looking to replace my AS brown calf captoe bal (straight tip). Found the C&J Handgrade Audley (Dark Brown Antique Calf) at Robert Old in stock!!! Promptly placed the order. $587USD and free shipping. A very decent price.

I had been considering the EG Chelsea in dark oak (I have the Chelsea in black calf), but, at about twice the price, I couldn't justify it given the frequency with which I will wear them. And I already have various EGs in dark oak (a splendid color in its own right).

I've bought from Robert Old before. They are very decent to work with.

^^ The AS model is actually a Peal & Co. (for BB) model (channeled sole) from 6-8 years ago. It has seen quite a lot of wear and I have a co-worker who is willing to pay a fair price for them. The fit is good, just time to switch things up a bit.

+1. Bought a pair of Westbournes from them a little over a year ago. Best price to the US I could find and transaction went without a hitch. Royal Mail saved me any customs hassles too.

I tried on C&J Conistons today in 7.5E and 8E and in each felt there was some pressure on the outside of the small and big toes of my right foot. I've looked around here and it seems the 325 last is about the widest from C&J. I can't go to an 8.5 as the 8 was already not so snug across the top of the foot. Is this something likely to lessen as the boot wears in? The small toe falls outside the toe cap of course, so there will be more give in this area. I might have a chance to try some Loake Dovedales later this week, but they're much less attractive than the Conistons. Any advice appreciated, thanks!

Crockett do a G width last, the 317. I have a pair of Grasmere's and a pair of Pembrokes in an 8G - have a look on page 133 of this thread.

I was in jermyn street earlier in the week and the little crockett shop had the 'Draycott' also 317 g width on sale.

Hello everybody

My first post on styleforum as I only developed an interest in shoes in the last couple of months. I'm also very interested in watches, fountain pens and classical music but who cares

I've just bought my first decent pair of dress shoes and after quite some research I ended up buying the Crockett & Jones Edgware. I apologies for the bad cell-phone picture and my not-so-good-english. I had lots of stress buying a pair of shoes that cost more then 500 euros (shoe trees included) and I have a history of buying almost all of my shoes too small. The 348 last is considered a more difficult last for fitting but I think I will be OK with this shoes and they seem to fit rather good. Off course, this is only the third day that I wear the shoes since I bought them and the heel slip (and the blisters) that I experienced the first day are already gone. There is still some pressure on my small toe but I think the leather is still rather stiff. I'll wait another month and if the shoes are (very) comfortable by then I'll probably buy a suede Hallam as well for a more casual look.

Is it possible to say if my shoes are too small or too big (or just fine) by watching the creaks? I'm still a bit nervous for the size although they are already rather comfortable and I've only worn them for 2,5 days now. I've read that some people have to wear the Edgware a lot before they are comfortable. Apparantly the dark brown leather on the Edgware would be very stiff at beginning but I'm not sure if this true.

So far from my limited experience (after making some fit mistakes) a bit of tightness around the toe and slight room at the back sounds good. The only concern from the photo is the fact that your laces are fully closed. Do you feel enough grip from the laces?

Thx for your comment. The laces definitely give me enough grip. I have no problems in that area The laces always close fully on all the shoes that I have. The upper of my feet are probably not very high (or how do say that in english?). My mother has that as well. It has never bothered me.

Isn't that close to what you'd pay for EG?

It is high, even for HG. In the US market, EGs do run >$1,200 though.
