I'm not trying to beat a dead horse but that is not true of the two pairs of C&J for Barneys that I have owned - both the Connaught (236 last) in 12D and the Keswick boot (325 last) in 12D are the equivalent of UK 11.5E.

Barney's is 1 size up based on my experience from 2011 Christmas season.

I think your illusion came as you primarily purchase XXX made by C&J or C&J for XXX shoes where size markings are inconsistent across the board.

Most of the full size down people's experiences came from buying C&J directly/Pediwear or other UK based retailers in UK sizing. So here it is again, I am US 10D, wears C&J and JL 9E, G&G 9.5F, and EG 9.5E.

I am under no illusion. I know the answer to the question of the correlation between C&J's UK and US sizing, and it isn't because I primarily purchase XXX made by C&J or C&J for XXX. It's because I corresponded via e-mail with Mr. Huqstable, Manager of Crockett & Jones mail order department, in March 2010. Here is the relevant part of his response to my inquiry:

"We do indeed make the Darlton bluchers, for Ralph Lauren in dark congnac shell cordovan. A US size 12 D is a UK size 11.5E in the last 325."

I don't think anyone can provide a more definitive answer than that.

The issue of what UK size you, or anyone else, wears is a different matter. Each person needs to find out for himself what size fits best.

I don't dispute your claim, mxgreen, but I'm a 9D in most shoes and an 8E on the 325 and 337 lasts.

I'm bored beyond belief with discussions of size and last. More pics, less theoretical discussions.

Speaking of which I bought an nice pair of black Prestwoods with a dainite sole this afternoon to help me cope with the snow and ice that has swept across Europe.

Size UK 8, (or US 9)

Photos to follow when I can be arsed (or US assed).

Does anybody know how the Chiltern 224 last fits? Do you wear the same size as the 341?

The Chiltern is a generous fit and on the wider side. FWIW I generally fit in 11E 337 last not sure re 341, but 10.5E is more than big enough in Chltern

The Chiltern on 224 is more rounded than the 341 last - slightly wider and slightly shorter. I wear same size in both.

When i bought my Somervilles from Burlington Arcade a month ago i got a pair of the lasted trees, 85 punds.

I did not know they had specific lasted trees. I recently bought the Somerville and when I asked about 363 lasted trees, they said shoe trees are "standard that they suppose to fit all our shoes" with the "Hand Grade" shoe trees (85 pounds) being varnished maple (I do not know of any other difference) compared to the standard natural lime wood shoe trees (60 pounds).

Anyone have more information?

The trees are what I would call 'semi lasted'. Meaning there are two models of benchgrade trees and one or the other of these two is designed to fit all of their various benchgrade lasts.

I have 5 pairs on the 348 last and have always purchased the trees (which are the same as the ones pictured above) they fit the 348 last beautifully.

I have one pair on the 341 last and that shoe gets the 'other' tree and it seems to fit quite well too.

This is the way I understand it - others may wish to chime in if I am mistaken - as it seems I often am. :embar:
