Red = buying opportunity though I'd like a little more of a drop before I'd consider it a good discount.

Anyone else get hit by some currency risk in their holdings? We tend to have around 5K Euros on hand and the last time we bought was in the high 1.30's. Debating on plunking down some more dollars for Euros as we are heading over there in January.

It normally isn't an issue because of the size of the investments we're talking about, but even if funds did permit lower commitments (through friends and family funds or otherwise), you'd still need to be an accredited investor to partake. This isn't legal advice, yadda yadda.

Being an LP in a PE/VC fund is a much different experience from investing in the market. You don't have a lot of visibility on the value of your investments (maybe quarterly updates but we're talking private companies so valuation isn't as concrete) and you don't really know when you're going to be writing another check or for how much. On top of that, once the funds start distributing you will be taking distributions over many years. Through my line of work I've been able to invest in a few different vehicles and have given up on trying to closely track IRR or anything like that for the class as a whole. If you're comfortable having capital tied up for 10 years or more and believe in your GP's, private fund investments can be a great investment vehicle but they are not for everyone.

My short Euro position is rocking. I'm up 7% on it.

Perhaps the real story is that Pimco is tired of his doom and gloom story.

IIRC he made an ass out of himself at his last investor conference as well.

I own shares in PGP, so I'm not pleased.

Nothing looks good today. In other news, my wife is changing jobs to an organization with a 403(b). The plan offers Vanguard funds which is nice and we get out of her old, expensive 401(k) plan. Also if I am reading the literature correctly, they make it mandatory you save at least 3% and match all the way up to 5%.

Anyone making money out there? I seem to recall someone holding eBay which was a nice little gain yesterday but giving some back today.

Rough week or so, oil stocks are cheap At the moment, IMO. If they are red again tomorrow I'm going to do some buying.
