Thank you EastWest for those samples. I hope your worked and worn pages get more photos. It would be great to see new and worn in boots next to each leather swatch.

I'm still debating my decision. I have a lot of trouble taking the proper fit on faith. I found 9.5 1000 miles to fit very well on Monday. I even found a place that's not too far of a drive that has the 744LTDs in stock. Trying to decide if I should drive down there but if I like them it's way more than I want to spend. Even the SDs are more than I was looking to spend but for really great foot support... It still might be the way to go.

744's fit exactly the same as Classic 1K's.

dont bother with the Wolverine's. They are ballet slippers compared to Whites. The one pair I had for all of 2 days basically fell apart on my feet. Never looked back. Every pair I have handled at a tore left a lot to be desired in terms of execution and QC. YMMV, but I say bypass the Wolverine's and get the Whites

For sizing I'd say talk to Kyle at Bakers and do their sizing sheet. I wasn't sure of my size and took their sizing recommendation and the fit is spot on.

I don't have to, I loosen them up a bit and they come off. First few days were tight until they started breaking in. Here is a typical dismount.

Do not like steel toes at all. As far as I know, that's they way they come unless you customize a pair. My hunters have the same toe.

^actually, my soft-toe SJ rough-outs are stock.

btw, maybe our resident leather care experts here can advise on how to condition rough-outs. i'd like to strip the "dubbing" off, w/c it had for the past 2 winters.

I'm sure he meant as opposed to the clastic (thin moldable plastic, has some give but gives the toe a structured look...found in most boots and dress shoes) toe reinforcement, not steel. Clastic is the most common choice for Whites that I see, though many do default to no reinforcement for some reason. I've had one pair without reinforcement and didn't care for it myself, but I know some like it. Single clastic is best for me.

I don't know that I've ever seen anyone condition rough-out--I always thought you just brush with a decent suede brush.

Interested in purchasing a pair of White's Semi-Dress boots.
Had a few questions....

How does sizing run?
I measure an 8D on the brannock device and take a 7/5D on the Alden Barrie/Truebalance lasts.
What size would you recommend?

Should I purchase direct from White's or go through Baker's?
