Sources for properly-sized pea coats? ...

Last year I bought a pea coat at Old Navy that's not too bad, and only $40. But the Large was a little small and the XL was, you guessed it, a little too large. ;-)

Ideally I'd like to find a pea coat with the proper measurements like a real jacket or shirt. I'm a 42 or 43.

I remember seeing someone mention a couple U.S. sources for pea coats (maybe even legit issue ones?) with reasonable prices that were sized this way. Anyone remember them? I neglected to save the links.

Thanks very much in advance,

Chris

Another option is to have one tailored if it is close but not quite there on the fit.

Lots of peacoat threads today. And I have responded on everyone.

Sterling Wear in Boston. You can order online. Legit, quite possibly the best. I understand they once produced or possibly still produce for the US Navy. As far as I know you cannot buy the exact US Navy one unless via Thrift store/used on Ebay etc.

I take a 38 in suits and that is what I bought for the peacoat and it fits nice and snug - not tight. Similar to a nice slim fitting suit. And after one winter it nicely conformed to my frame to be even more comfortable. First couple wearings it felt a bit stiff but softened up quickly.

You will get a lot more life out of these ones than something from Gap or Old Navy, but you will pay $150 plus shipping in comparison.

Sterlingwear doesn't have the contract anymore, as I understand it, but all the older vintage ones that people pay out the nose for were made by them.

And they do sell the US navy spec stuff. The one that meets spec:

The premium version that exceeds spec:

Both come in whatever size and color you want.
