^ I've had bespoke odd trousers made by Dario / LS Men's, Mr. Ned, Ercole, Mina and the vaunted Ambrosi - Mina was the best. Very clean across the back, and not as lean as I would have expected from a Neapolitan maker (Ambrosi was good but a bit too lean for a North American business silhouette).

Was impressed with NSM pants (far more so than their coats but that is neither here nor there). I would say their first effort was not great but the second pair was 100% dialed-in and fit better than anything I have gotten elsewhere.

Thanks, everyone. "Very clean across the back" and "not as lean as one would have expected" is music to my ears. I'll put in an order this weekend.

I'd like to try MSM on their visit to San Francisco next week. For my first commission, I'm considering an odd jacket. Given everyone's experiences with them, would I be better off ordering a summer or winter jacket? In other words, should I expect to be putting on my new jacket for the first time sometime around June of next year (after a fitting on their next visit in April)?

I would recommend a Summer jacket. I think they do better with lighter weight fabrics from what I've heard. After all, they live in a warm climate.

I would go with a summer jacket purely because of their styling. I think it's better suited for lightweight jackets, though they also make some lovely fall stuff as well.

Thanks E,TF. I saw those, and Vox noted to me that he's had great experiences with NSM's trousers. To be honest, I somewhat suspect that he may be an easier client to fit (that is, I may be more deformed), but it's nice to hear nothing but positive reviews so far.

As you're in SF, just keep in mind that "summer" weight is definitely a relative term, particularly for southern Italians. I would also suggest considering a solid color coat in hopsack or Irish linen, since not having to fuss with pattern matching while adjusting through your fittings removes a complicating variable.

I'll post pics of the chunky brown/beige herringbone cashmere jacket I picked up yesterday. (I can't wait for cold weather now smile.gif )

Hmmmm, that is disappointing to hear. That means that anything less than quarterly visits requires a full year lead time to allow for an initial fitting and only one adjustment.
