Like a Tudor, which IS a Rolex Submariner, but at a $3000 discount because there's no crown on the dial:

Where do you get $400 MTM suits with all these details? Fabric must be Super 120s poly or better, though, or I'm not interested.

Yep, that's another excellent option which I failed to mention. Good one. That, along with those I did mention, and there's really no reason to go for a crappy fake.

They don't sell Tudor in North America anymore, do they? I was under the impression Rolex only sells those in Europe.

I have one that dates to 1972 or so. One of my favourite watches.

Some may or may not have Lemania or ETA movements. Who knows -- they're counterfeiting the watch, I'm sure they could etch "ETA" on whatever movement. It is very well made.

The "grades" thing is bull too. There are two grades: Crappy and good. Buy a good one. The crappy ones are really crappy. The good ones are indistinguishable and intended to deceive (holograms, packaging, etc).

PM me if you want to know where I got it.

p.s. I am the dork who synced the second hand and the chronograph hand. It works like a normal chrono.

Sorry, but not even close. The fonts are off, as is the bezel and the poor fit of the bracelet to the watch (in addition to the bracelet's overall loosely constructed appearance) is a dead give away. I shudder to think what the rest of the clasp and bracelet look like.

Europe and the Middle East I think. Possibly Asia as well, but I'm not sure of that.

Agreed... First thing I noticed... And I'm not even a rolex guy!

To the OP.

Take some time to learn what kind and level of craftsmanship, expertise, technology, time and money goes into production of a Rolex or any high level watch and then try to think if the same approach is undertaken by counterfeiters. It's simple logic.

Well fakes are well fakes and shouldn't be encouraged. If you like the style of a rolex then get a similar invicta, orient, seiko or whatever but from what I have seen the build of the fakes are getting way close to the real watches. And parts in the real watches are even more accessible considering simple ETA movements cost like $100-150, Selitta movements cost way less and they build a lot of their parts in china , Valjoux 7650 chronograph go as low as $300 on ebay and Seagull/Lemania movements seem to have gotten better now that ETA will no longer be supplying movements to watch manufaturers that are not in the swatch group, 316L grade stainless steel is the same in both real and fakes with the exception of Rolex which now uses another grade with more nickel (older rolex use the same 316L), sapphire glass cost like $30-50 and you can get an after market AR coating for an additional $40. So its hard to differentiate between the real watches and the fakes based on the above. I mean these guys even have a working Turbillon!!!

But one thing though, it will take the chinese years to accurately replicate the likes of Langes, Pateks, Glaschuttes, Breguets, JLCs, these are watches worth the investments IMO.

I am not sure what kind of class you want to get from wearing a Rolex.

I believe people who do not know much about clothing cannot tell what is the difference of a fussed/canvassed or a cheap rtw/bespoke savile row suit.

In the same way, if you are not into high end watches, you would just think Richard Mille is a cheap swatch type of watches.

People who pay premium into high end watches pay for the amount of time into design, craftmanship or creativity of a high end watch.

But afterall, it's just your preception.........

Not entirely true. They'll still sell movements, but now they'll only sell completed movements, with the ETA stamp on them. Previously, they'd sell parts of movements which watch manufacturers could augment with parts of their own (the ETA in an IWC is unrecognizable as such, for example). It's that practice which they'll be stopping. However anyone who wants to fit a watch with a generic ETA will still be able to do so.

Not big on fake watches but I don't have a problem w. people buying them. I mean if they are people who feel validated by wearing a Rolex I don't see why others wouldn't do the same for a discounted price.
