Were these starter minutes or minutes in garbage time? It seems improbable to me that Lin could have improved that much in one year. A more plausible explanation is that he is getting a full and fair opportunity to prove himself (albeit only after the three guys ahead of him on the depth chart proved to be terrible), and is making the most of his opportunity. Being in a system that accentuates his strengths helps as well.

Agree somewhat, but I also think he has worked really hard to improve his game. He averaged, what, 5 assists per game in college? And now he is averaging 8 or 9 against more skilled defenses, albeit in a slightly longer game. I've seen a little bit of film of him in college and he always a good finisher near the rim in traffic, but I think he's worked a lot of refine his game, like taking better angles to the basket off the pick and roll. He's also bulked up quite a bit since he entered the NBA.

Anyways, this is unreal. I literally don't know what to expect on a nightly basis now.

I'm no superfan or geek analyst but the one thing I haven't seen an explanation for is why Lin is so good starting 10 days ago, and not before. I mean, he's a second year player, he had plenty of minutes playing the point in GS. Sure it was garbage time but he didn't impress anyone, not even adjusted for his minutes. Oh you mean it's all D'Antoni's system? He's played games this year too, up to 20 mins before this streak, he didn't impress anyone before Feb 4.

DAntoni was desperate (it was reported he was going to get fired if they lost one more game, the same game Lin made his first breakout game) and the timely injury to Melo, plain and simple. I still think Melo will prevent Lin from beasting the way he is right now, Melo is the big star with the big paycheck, he may try to adapt to the new Lin-system but he's been in the league for close to 10 years now doing his ****, it won't be easy to change and be the second option. It's all about getting the chance and motivation, Lin was desperate too because his contract wasn't guaranteed and was sleeping in someone else couch. So when he got the chance, he took advantage and showed what he can do.

In GS, he was behind Monta & Curry, he had no chance to play with those two taking up the backcourt. If you read some interviews, he was made fun of how he shot the ball in GS and he has improved on that since then, Curry himself said it. EVen in garbage time in GS, it's hard to be motivated and the system might not just work for him. He also didn't play with good player in garbage time. If he would have played with Wright and Morrow behind the arc and Lee on the paint w/o Curry and Ellis hogging the ball, then maybe he could have played better.

In NY, he is playing with actual starters now and he manages to make Chandler a scorer again like CP3 did for him a few years back and on the process, made himself look good. It makes you look much better as a player if your teammates gives you good screens and actually hits the open shots. Once you're playing in garbage time, those players tend to be uninspired and don't do these little things well so in return, everyone looks bad.

Well that's my analysis of his current resurgence.

to get this thread back on track.:fence: went to the laker game last night. one of the weirdest games i've been too. felt like all the air had been sucked out of the room and they were playing with a medicine ball. good thing atlanta had it worse. a whole month's worth of oddities: kobe and ron had the same number of points? ron-ron hit TWO threes and made TWO jams (one of them legitimately above the rim)? game gets iced by gasol knocking down a corner 3 ... after he shot something like 25% in teh first half on the kinds of 10-15 jump shots he normally sleeps through? bynum totally beasted in the first half, almost disappeared in the second after they turned the ball over twice on bad entry passes. very, very weird

To be honest, other than Chandler and Fields, Lin is pretty much still playing with a garbage time lineup in NY. I mean, he's playing with guys like Bill Walker, Jared Jeffries, and Steve Novak, who let's face it, are scrubs.

Which I think makes it more impressive that he's winning games with these guys. But it also makes his stats less impressive because somebody has to produce on that time. He has the second highest usage rate in the league after Kobe. The ball is in his hands the whole time and he's playing huge minutes.

Game looked boring last night, felt like the Lakers were just playing badly but still didn't seem like they were going to lose. The Hawks game was just that much worse.
