I have a bottle coming with my hunt boots, which are scheduled to arrive by the end of the day Wednesday. I plan on using it immediately on my trail oxfords which I have been wearing since Sept, and are in need of a little love. Thanks for asking this question, as I myself am very curious about the effects of Venetian Shoe Cream on chromexcel.

Also wondering if anyone has used Sno Seal on chromexcel? I understand that Venetian will condition the leather, but not necessarily waterproof it. With the hunt boots, I am considering using Sno Seal to sure them up for the rainy season here in Northern CA. Thanks!

the guys at horween recommend using venetian cream on cxl ... but try not to over use it. it works very well w/o leaving that annoying sheen you get with many conditioners.

if you need a waterproofer quoddy makes the best stuff i have used but its expensive.

Thanks for the advice. I just finished treating my Wolverine 1000 Mile Boots (black chromexcel) with Kiwi mink oil. I had a tin which I did not want to waste. They look great but I am probably going to opt for sno seal next time. The sno seal results on chromexcel are below thanks to Crane's. I used Crane's method with the mink oil and I will see what type of usage results I get. Also, do you guys recommend venetian with all colors? Will the cream darken lighter shades of brown? Thanks again. http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...wolverine+1000

I'd recommend it, especially if you're buying something from Oak Street since it's only $5. I just used it on my oxfords yesterday. It didn't really make much of a difference now since I've only worn mine ~15 times (only worn all day a few times), and they're still in excellent condition, aside from some creasing.

Some tips: Wipe your shoes clean before doing it. When you're rubbing the cream into the shoes, don't rub too hard. Take your time and do a small section with each application. I noticed that if I scrubbed a little too hard, some navy came off onto my cloth, so be gentle. It took me around 20 minutes each shoe. After I applied the cream, I scrubbed it lightly with the Horsehair brush. The brush was also the best way to get rid of any cream stuck in between the lacing.

I still have plenty of cream leftover, too. I could do it at least 10 times before running out, so I think $5 is a good price.

sure. yeah, you should be okay using it on your wolverine and will not darken ... i think the wolverines are also cxl, is that correct? like i said, the guys ive talked to at horween (the people who make the cxl leather osb uses) recommend venetian cream. if you want to waterproof there is a ton of stuff out there but i recently used the quoddy waterproofer and it does an amazing job on cxl leather. water beads up after you use this stuff on your shoes ... similar to how cxl reacts to water when its new. the problem is its a pain ********** to use because you need to heat the shoe and its best to rub on with your fingers so its also messy. its also on the expensive side but well worth it. i wouldnt use anything other than venetian cream to condition and clean and the orgainic quoddy waterproofer to repel water, at least on cxl leather. hope this helps.

Yeah, the wolverines are cxl. I treated my boots by rubbing the mink oil in and using a blow dryer as Crane's recommended in the Wolverine thread. I agree it is extremely time consuming and somewhat messy. It took me about two hours for two pairs of boots.

I figured there would be no difference in color for darker shoes/boots. How about brown/light brown shoes/boots? I need something for my newly purchased mocs in caramel and brown. I will probably just get a bottle of the cream.

Got my pair of Vibram sole Trail Oxfords in 8.5...sized down 1/2 size from my usual size, 9. I've now tried the 8.5 and 9 on, and I can say the 1/2 size down fit is spot on for me. A little bit snug, but just enough that I can tell the leather will stretch to perfectly conform. I love these shoes and will definitely be purchasing more in the future.

For reference I am a 9D measured on a Brannock - my left foot being just at 9 and right foot about 8.8.

I'll post pictures when possible.

Brown Trail Oxford arrived today. 1/2 size down also on the fit and it's perfect. Very comfortable. I really like the color of the leather.
