Chambray source?

IIRC Coffin mentions a source for "Amish" chambray (I assume this would be the real deal) in his book on shirtmaking. You could e-mail...call...err..write them a letter or something and ask for a catalogue.

As for what I'm making... a few things are in the works, but the chambray will most likely be used as a lining for a waxed-cotton laptop sleeve, and maybe as bias tape for a reproduction of Filson's extinct short-bill cap, seen on the right in this picture:

If they would look like that I would definitely buy them. And I'm not even bald

Have you thought about using chambray as the outer material and using a madras plaid as lining? This would be a great combo for warmer weathers.

A 5 panel cap without any branding would also be great.

Yeah, that's it. Do they still have the workshirt chambray listed? How much is it?

I forgot to check last night. I'll let you know...

dixonmanor- If you do have these made, I'd be happy to make some small leather ring belt type cinches for the back if you think they'd look good.

Zissou, I might take you up on that. I've been brainstorming an economical yet good looking way to solve the sizing problem. I may end up just doing a small, medium, large kind of thing, but it all depends on cost.

As for doing the hats in other fabrics, we'll see. I'm committed to doing this initial run in waxed cotton because for my dollar, it's the most practical, versatile option out there.

Zissou, please do post us some scans from the Gohn Bros catalogue if you can. Maybe on the SuFu workwear thread, too?? Would love to know more about what they have. Ta, paul t

Will do, Paul.

dixon- Well, turn a little profit on these, and then move on to other fabrics

S, M, L would be perfect. Just make sure L is 7-3/4 to 7 7/8

I have a big head. I'd still buy one of them, but I'd probably pick up ten in twill/canvas/chambray. Let me know whenever about the cinches.

Second that.

And post it here, on SF.

I ordered the Gohn Brothers catalog from the website (google it), atl east, I sent them an e-mail asking for it. The website says to write them if you want the thing...

Anyway, if I get the catalog and/or the fabric itself I'll pass along my findings.

Mr. Dixon,

Glad you got the swatches and you like them. That material is what the Henderson shirt is made of. You can see the fabric in the Drinkwater's affiliate thread.
