Just ordered one from Orvis. Now looking for a double breasted cardigan that can be worn like a sportcoat - Saks has one on its web site but not in my size.

I recall seeing RL cashmere db cardigans at Bloomingdales.

You're 100% right.
My problem over here is I work (at present) in an industrial area so I'm only seeing mostly factorywear on people. It's so depressing. I'll have to find a job downtown. I miss downtown T.O. terribly.

OK, PSG, now that I have been wearing my cashmere turtleneck sweater all day, I'll add another to your list - the shearling coat. I don't know if it is under appreciated or not, but damn it is masculine.

Turtle neck dangers: soup, red wine, large belly, anything served in a sauce.

Same advisory for neckties. I recently seriously stained a brand new multifold
example at a wedding. First wearing at my nieces wedding. I shouldn't have
opted for the steak entree.

Gus, aren't you warm in it? When I lived in Chicago I wore wool and/or cashmere
turtle necks regularly. Only a few of my collection still fit. But I've worn them rarely
because what passes for winter in the Bay Area isn't very cold. I wear cotton turtle necks
for skiing under a sweater and gortex. But these are kind of ratty by now. Maybe I'll
get some more cotton ones for every day wear. Any suggestions for good ones?

Can I refill your eggnog for you? Get you something to eat? Drive you out to the middle of nowhere and leave you for dead?

Patch pockets. All I see these days are ticket pockets, on every blazer and suit from H&M to Kiton. There's something more rustic and rugged about a patch that's stitched on to your jacket.

Worse is seeing aborted attempts, such as patch side pockets on a blazer with a normal breast pocket.

A nice 2ply cashmere works well in the Bay Area for me anyway. But I wouldn't wear it if I was going into office buildings all day long with steady warm heat settings. Instead I wear them around the house and for running errands.

Agree. Shearling has a rugged masculine quality to it. It was very popular, like turtlenecks in the late 60's and early 70's.

Then, came the leather bomber jackets. Originally they were trim cut military style or surplus and quite masculine as well. But in the late 80's and early 90's they became full cut, lost all their shape and turned into the equivalent of "Dad's Jean's" to be worn with big, loose khakis. I say, "Bring back the trim cut bomber jacket"
