Just bought a great Moncler winter down jacket. It's my first. Love the style and seems to be high quality down, particularly considering what's a "fair" (pricey) but fair price point. Any thoughts on those who have or have had Moncler winter jkts in the past. In short, do they live up to hype? Would love to read your thoughts.

very warm very light. the fill is high quality. I have a simple one and this will be my third winter with it -- like it a lot.

I dont really like their more fashion-ey pieces though. just my personal preference...

+1.
I have a Moncler Winter 3/4 Length Coat. Very plain. No Gaudy logos or shiny material. Had it for a few years and am very impressed with it.

Same as the two above for me. I've had their classic, simple quilted down jacket for five or six years and it's held up great. Also have a reversible vest that has held up the same.

Moncler's quality in my opinion has started to go down. I've seen some of the new items and the "duvet" feathers they are using aren't as nice. Don't get me wrong its still Moncler and still has quality but I just think they are starting to cut corners. Who hasn't now

I was wondering about this, honestly. They used to be a really small, not terribly well known company outside small circles, and in the past 2-3 years they've just exploded. I see them EVERYWHERE now, whereas when I got my jacket, you could count the US stockists on one hand.

Txs, all. Appreciate your comments. BTW: I agree that I'm not a fan on much fo the fashion forward jackets that you find in Barney's these days. As for quality, I presume that it has gone down a bit, like just about every other maker of fine garments these days. So much made in China, while still charging Italian, English and US prices. Moreover, they see the oppty for expansion and all hell breaks loose. At least -- for now -- they are sticking to jkts, and not moving into new areas for the sake of making a buck. Nevertheless, I really like the jkt. Classic for sure, and still not everywhere on the streets.

They are nice, but there are some functional aspects that have stopped me from buying in the last few years.

Other than warmth, these down jkts aren't even water or shower proof!

Their nylon jackets are even worse, they say they are shower proof yet there is no water repellent coating or taped seams!

IMO - they look great, but I'd rather put my $$$ into something that has function & not just form. Whish is a shame as they have a great history for function & form.
