This would be a fun little trip for a full day. Drive up to Point Reyes for oysters and sauv blanc on the water around lunchtime, then continue driving up the 1 for the beautiful coastline, take the Bodega Highway into Sebastopol, taste at Merry Edwards, have an early dinner at French Garden, hop on 101, and make it back into the city in time for a nightcap.

**** how much was the DDBR? They've got them featured at the LCBO right now. Pretty sure that's what it was. I had a really good chat with the somm there today. I told him I was pretty ignorant of italian wines and we picked out 4 bottles for me to try (and i grabbed another couple on my own).We were staying away from things like barolo and brunello di montalcino and pinot grigio since i'm familiar with that stuff already. Here's the haul.

Quick question for you Wine-perts:

Dickbag invited some girl over the other day and popped open a bottle of the wine I picked up for a glass. I stuffed the cork in and threw it in the fridge. About how long will it last in there?

Also, once opened, is it best to refrigerate it or leave it out at room temp?

Closer to SF, you can go down the Penninsula to the SC Mountains. Ridge Monte Bello is there.

Drink it tomorrow. It won't last long. Every wine will be different with regards to how long they'll last, but you can't expect much. It will probably lost a lot between now and tomorrow to be honest. Your best bet is to get a vino vac (or vacu vin - same thing) if not finishing bottles is a frequent occurence. They don't keep the wine perfect, but it's much better than putting a cork back in.

I need to find a goto chard for $20. It's tough and I hate that I don't have a cellar.

I'm generally not either, but I'm hoping to find one that's a fairly close to the french ones I love but are too expensive to drink on a regular basis (puligny-montrachet being the ideal). I've been looking for years, on and off.

Look for an unoaked bottling, there are a few. Morgan makes one from the central coast, I think it's called Mettalico (it's brought up in stainless steel), as does Melville, which calls its version Inox. The Morgan is $15-20, the Melville is around $30. The Edna Valley wines are also nice, well made wines in the $15-20 price range.
