So doing the NYT braised pork belly. Going to have a simple spinach salad with some goat cheese, toasted pine nuts, olives and a homemade vinaigrette. What to pair? I have an 07 Hanna Chard I'm thinking about. Thoughts?

About to have a bottle of J Lohr Cabernet with Sunday lunch. Really, it has never let me down.

Great fruit, balanced with tannins and appropriate alcohol. Spicy, blackcurrant and leather. Delish. $22

But just $13 bones across the river!

Last night: Fresh figs stuffed with gorgonzola and roasted, served with a balsamic reduction. After Osso Bucco served with saffron rissotto. Wine: 2003 Musella Amarone aerated and decanted for 1.5 hours. Gorgeous dark ruby red and complex nose. Was very hot on the back end but after the first hour of the alcohol mellowed out. J5 Robot Scale - 92pts

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 20 - 30 bottle wine fridge? Have started accumulating a few bottles and I would feel better knowing they are stored correctly. Not looking to spend a lot of money and the bottles are not particularly big timer but something entry level that is dependable.

Also, this idea will probably be panned quickly but what do you think about purchasing via craigslist? I figure people are always moving up to bigger fridges so there would be a lot of used opportunities.

I abslutely love a good Torrontes! Valle de Uco and La Rioja produce some great juice. I had recently done that pairing with a shrimp, chicken and muscle Paella with a hint of heat and a 2008 La Yunta torrontes that had a wonderful balance of fruit/minerality/acidity...it was awesome!

Haven't heard much discussion about 2007 Bordeaux yet … for reds it is a vintage that nobody is about to mistake for epic, but it has shaped up to offer some pretty good bargains and there are quite a few good wines that will be ready for drinking in only a few years.

We had a big release this weekend at our local big store and I picked up a couple of cases - more for early gratification while we wait for the 05’s and 06’s to start opening up. The whites are especially good for this year and Sauternes/Barsac may be close to epic.

Here’s what I bought...
Reds:
A few bottles of Cos d’Estournel and Leoville Las Cases – these are my favorites and as nice as I’m willing to spend in Bordeaux – cheaper than ‘06s, both of these are supposed to have the best aging potential of the 07’s – but this is only projected to extend to 2025 or 27, nothing like the 40+ years that the 05 or 09 are going to require.

Almost a case of both Ch d’Armailhac and Clerc Milon – these are both Rothschild properties but at a fraction of the price of Mouton. Both are good no-nonsense Pauillacs that I’ll enjoy sooner rather than later.

Smith Haut-Lafitte, Domaine de Chevalier and Ch Lynch Bages. Never had Chevalier before but my shopping companion highly recommended it. The other two are solid and reliable performers from Pauillac and Pessac-Leognan

Whites: these will overshadow the reds - all are a high proportion of sauvignon blanc followed with semillon and bit of muscadelle for a great nose and good acidity.
Ch Carbonieux – I’ve had earlier vintages of this before which manage to combine acidity with some oak that is not at all overdone. A great white wine.
Ch Haut-Bergey – simply trusted the reviews on this tiny property, 92-94 in wine advocate at a nice price
Ch Larrivet-Haut-Brion – I’ve always enjoyed the tartness of this wine and how well it goes with food.

Sauternes – this is supposed to be an epic year.
My modest picks (although, two are 95+ and one is 93 if we believe the ratings…)
Ch Suduiraut, Ch Doisy-Vedrines, Ch Guiraud
