Hey guys I have a quick question. I've been eyeing up quite a few shirts of their website but I'm not currently anywhere near a jcrew store. My question is... what size shirt would fit me best? I am 6' tall, 165 lbs, I wear a 38R jacket. I like my shirts fitted, not slouchy and hanging off me medium? or small maybe? any difference between sizing on button downs and t's or crews? http://images.jcrew.com/erez4/erez?s...if&tmp=prdDtIm http://images.jcrew.com/erez4/erez?s...if&tmp=prdDtIm http://images.jcrew.com/erez4/erez?s...if&tmp=prdDtIm http://images.jcrew.com/erez4/erez?s...if&tmp=prdDtIm if anyone could provide a chest measurement for a medium or small button down i'd really appreciate it! thanks!

Call customer service. They should be able to help you determine the appropriate size.

For comparison purposes, though, I'm 6'1, 190 pounds, wear a 42 or 44 jacket, and am between a J. Crew medium and large but almost always opt for the J. Crew large.

I'm done with regular retail stuff now. Gonna wait for the mid-fall sales to start. Hoping for some cords and tompkins jeans on sale in October, as well as maybe the thermal henleys. That stuff is sure to go on sale.

Exactly. What I check for is what "they" tell you to always check for. Button at the neck that's snug but not uncomfortable, shoulder seams at the shoulders and not below, sleeve lengths not too long or short.

Those are pretty much fail-safe guidelines. If those are right, the fit will be good.

Fitted, not loose at all. Except at the sleeves where it is still a bit baggy.

So I decided to actually WEAR my new flannel. It's finally cool enough. I'm happy to report that it feels and looks nicely fitted. My previous prejudice against flannels was based on their bagginess. The J. Crew has a nice urban-fit look and feel. I love it.

2' inches shorter than you, otherwise same size, and I wear L.

Seems right. The other measurement that's important, of course, is chest size. In fact, you can almost always go by chest size as a good indicator of the right size, e.g, 42-44 equaling Large, etc, and then everything else about the garment should be right or close.

Got back from J. Crew. For the person who asked, I didn't like the shirt jacket at all. I don't get the dislike of the Urban Slim chinos, I bought a pair and love the fit, they only had grey and khaki. I wish red was accepted as a fall color (or that they atleast stocked it).

Also I tried on the sperry chukkas, they're ugly. I tried to like them I really did but I just can't.

+1 on the buffalo check shirt jacket. nice idea in concept but the fit is super boxy made worse by the sherpa lining. -1 on the jcrew chukkas, i still want them

Small should fit you perfectly. I'm 6' 160 pounds 40R and a small is just a touch tight in the chest, but a medium is gigantic all over. (This is my experience with their button downs, don't own their t's) Their polos fit smaller, and I prefer a medium(albeit it is a bit big on me) because the small is tight in the chest/biceps.
