Good on you there. Other folks didn't approach it the same way. I remember arguing with a friend of mine who was carrying on about how "unfair" it was that her fiance might get sent to Iraq (early 90's), which was not what he'd bargained for (according to her). Dude was ROTC which paid for both his undergrad and his med school. When I asked whether that was not, in fact, exactly what he had "bargained" for, her response was "but nobody knew then that we'd be in a war!"

Oh man that was devious of Fang to do that (if that's really what "went down" or happened).

Basically I kept getting PM private messages people asking me to go back to the alvatar they were used to seeing above the name of L'Incandescent and so I obliged. (Current alvatar was my alvatar for hell of long time yes it's a fact I got love in my heart for the lady who is depicted.)

They're smoking cigars
He's got a chain of flowers
And sews a bird in her knickers

Did you Falcon punch her?

The worst story I've ever heard about someone joining the military and winding up unexpectedly deployed after signing up during peacetime was a good friend of mine who finished college and enlisted, turning down the opportunity to be an officer. He started boot camp just before Labor Day of 2001.

This makes me wonder whether any of the guys I knew in high school died in the military. I wasn't particularly close to any of them and I doubt I could remember any of their names without going through my old yearbook.

She now has a side business giving speeches and publishing books and online pieces about how to be happy. Presumably "just ignore anything that seems inconvenient or upsetting" is part of the secret.

During Vietnam a lot of guys waited for the draft as it was only 2 years compared to three or four for enlistment . What a lot of them didn't realize was that for awhile The Marine Corps was taking 1 out of every 4 draftee . If you don't know what that meant you should read about the history of the Marines in Vietnam
