Making a suit jacket longer?

Is this possible, and if, by how much?

The reason Im asking is because my mtm suit was way to short, it ends about were my butt starts and looks very thom browneish which is not what I want. Apperently me and the the guy measuring me had a different oppinion on how long a "normal" suit jacket should be.

So as I said, is it possible to make it longer, and by how much?

Depends on the amount of cloth available, usually it's around 0.5-1 inch, sometimes not even that much. The jacket needs to be lengthened at the front as well, which may be tricky if you're using somebody who does not know what he's doing. All in all, potentially (amount of vents etc. increase the price, at least at my alteration guy) costly alteration with very little effect as the cloth available is often very limited.

Usually easily done in the back, but due to the curvature and minimal amount of excess cloth in the quarters, it's hard to do for the front.

Show us pics. If you mean the bottom of where your butt starts, he might be right and you may be wearing your coats too long. If you mean the top (I can't imagine) then...

Show us pics and we can help you.

Did you not simply instruct him? Is it too late to reject it?

this may well be very difficult unless there is a generous an=mount of 'spare' cloth.

the front cannot be lengthened at the bottom of the facing. but the back can be lengthened 1/2". the bottom will be slanted. but if the back is now shorter than the front it may work.

So here are some pictures. I got this MTM suit for about 520 usd here in sweden. There were 3 choices in terms of fit Regular Slim Slim fit Slim fit being the most slim. So I got the suit 4 weeks later, tried it on, I could barely button it and if felt like the button threads would break, and this is when I chose the SLIM version being the middle on. What if I had chosen slim fit? It wouldnt even work to button up... So the first thing he did was to alter it as much as possible so it wasnt so tight. Also when we discussed jacket length he kept referring to a normal suit jacket ending about were the zipper of your pants ends. As Im pretty short I wanted a suit jacket just a tad shorter then "normal". Normal in my oppinion when the suit jacket covers your butt. So I got it about 1-1.2 inches shorter then "normal" Things that Ive thought about. It seems like the jacket is cut in way to high on my upper body. The most tight point of the jacket is at chest hight, isn't it supposed to be lower? Like down were the ribs are? Also some strange wrinkles/creases appears. In my oppinion this isnt a tad shorter jacket and slim cut but a jacket that is 1 size to small.

The black line is were my butt ends, as I said I wanted it 1-1.2 inches shorter then normal, normal imo being were the black line is

Also I think the jacket is to much cut in, as it being so short as it is, it ends just were my butt starts the part that is at the bottom of the jacket stands straight out, like some sort of womens suit jacket. The upper button is at the same place as my pectoralis ends.

So this is all very frustrating to me as Im only 19 years old, have no job and been saving all my money to get this suit. I went for mtm because I have a pretty normal upper body but really really slim arms so i always have problem finding anything otr that fits good. So what do you think? Imo he measuerd it wrong as many creases/wrinkles appear and it seems to be cut to high on my upper body.

wow

This is MTM? Are you still growing? It looks ridiculously small and short, especially for MTM. The buttoning point located on your sternum is the cherry on the cake.

I don't see how this jacket could be corrected enough for you to wear it. See what the people you worked with are willing do about this. You may be better off selling it and starting over.

No Im not still growing, also this was made 4 weeks ago. I know the buttoning is waaay to high set. Ive been talking to the guy who took the measures for more then 1 hour on the phone, he refuses to give me the money back. And it looks bad I know. So now I need some serious answers to everything that seems wrong. But you must take in account that I chose Regular Slim Slim fit And about 1-1.2 inches to short. Imo ********* up measuring it. Her's a reference pic, this is the model of suit jacket I chose Imo the buttons shouldnt be located anywere else just because I chose a slim suit and 1 inch shorter then the normal, and if you wonder how a normal looks according to them just look at this pic. This is supposed to be 1-1.2 inches shorter and slim

and this is how it should look, regular.

WOW!

WOW!

This jacket is a COMPLETE disaster. Looks like you are wearing a woman's jacket.

NO amount of realteration can fix the problem.

Start over.

Yes I know, but I need to some how convince the guy in the store that it was his/the tailors fault and not mine. Thats why I need to know everything that is wrong with it.

Im planing to take it to a serious tailor and ask him to jugde it. If he then wont return the money/get me a new one Im thinking of contacting the consumers association which can help me hopefully.

why don't you email the tailor these pictures and see what he says?

I mean, do you really need to be told what's wrong? The whole jacket is wrong!

if its been altered i think you are stuck. if there is no satisfaction from the store then sell it on ebay.
there is a demand for short sizes.

let me back up. at first you did not say the suit was MTM. this then is a new thread.
from the look of it the people in the store f***** up big time. they owe you a new suit.
or the factory f***** up, and they owe you a suit.
one way to check, ask to see the carbon copy of the order the store sent.
if the length on the order is the same as the jacket measures, the store screwed up.
if the length on the order is much much longer than the jacket, then the factory screwed up.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO EAT THIS GO BACK AND FIGHT. ITS NOT YOUR PROBLEM ITS THEIRS.
