I love my Jeep. And put it to good use every week packing it to the gills with supplies for the family business. HEMI V8, all wheel drive, good visibility, safe, great for the ****** weather we get in the North East and performs well in all conditions. Only costs me $40 to fill up and the tank lasts me an entire week driving to NYC every day. What's not to love?

I was rear ended on the FDR a few months ago. I was at a complete stop and someone who wasnt paying attention slammed into me. Zero damage to my car, but the car that hit me was close to totaled.

My only fear is they actually make them illegal. Cost prohibitive for the masses, I'm 100% for. Illegal though? Not so much.

We should progressively lower the threshold of acceptable polution but I don't see the type of vehicule being illegal, what purpose would it serve? I mean let's say we go electric and polution is relatively minimal well have a go at your SUV. Now if I was grand dictator of taste you'd end up in the bad design Goulag...

I love my jeep. love the height, the room, the awesomeness in the snow(michigan), and since I have a problem with moving, its been great for all the moving I have had to do.

As for the gas mileage. Turns out my big old v8 gets better highway mileage than the I6. And much better mileage than my buddies xterra. I actually get about only 20% less mileage than my old v6 accord.

That said, when gas goes back up, I am either going to get a work car, or pick up another honda civic/integra/del sol or something that I can make get 30+ miles

I went to Palm Springs, California last weekend and saw a Hummer. I have a friend who got rid of his Hummer because he was spending 110 USD every four days to have it filled up. Just does not make sense these days. Leave it Arnold.

If I were in the market for a van, I would sure take a look at the Chrysler offering. The darned things are pretty feature rich for the price. We had one when the children were young. They really are unbeatable for the function of carrying a family and whatever they want to throw into the thing. It was probably 15 years ago but the thing was pretty peppy and would get about 25 mpg on the road. Good luck with your purchase. You might look at trying to use the new Clunker Rebate program. It could be worth it to find one cheap to turn in for the rebate.

I have an SUV but I rarely drive it. Yet, there are times when it's the perfect vehicle for all sorts of needs. Tomorrow, for example, we'll load it up with lots of stuff including the dog and head to Lake Michigan for a few days. It's great having one.

There are tons of mid sized cars that burn as much fuel or more than many SUVs and yes I have 2 SUVs in my household and they serve as multipurpose vehicles for us.

Hate 'em, mostly for size'n'safety concerns. They're useless for the most part- I'd venture to say that 99.999% of what people consider a good reason to have a SUV can be handled by a smaller vehicle. That said - they're good for the inverse (i.e. high-riding/safer, if you're in one). Yes, they guzzle gas, but so do other cars...

It is safer for the driver (in a hypothetical crash and plus the visibility)....... for everyone else on the road though
