If I have some extra cash, what should I get?

In my opinion, you should invest it in shoes. A proper shoe rotation seems to be the biggest Achilles heel in a man's wardrobe (not around here though).

Any advice would be great,

Wow, what is wrong with some people on this forum? Most you aren't even funny.

It really depends what kind of clothing you're into and how you want to spread your money around. If I was in your position I would go for shoes and classics. If you like monk straps grab a pair of those, and then I would go for a navy blazer - versatile, timeless, and can dress any outfit up or down.

I might also buy yourself one or two nice ties in classic patterns for more formal occasions or when you feel like dressing up.

It sounds like you're just starting to build your wardrobe so you'll want to invest in things that are versatile and aren't going to go out of style. With your budget I wouldn't be spending a ton of money on pants, socks, or dress shirts - I think the price/value is going to be a lot higher for things like shoes, blazers, suits, and ties. You can always replace the pants. shirts etc. with more expensive/better quality stuff when you get more money.

I'd also consider investing in a cashmere sweater. It will last a long time if taken care of properly and is definitely a wardrobe staple.

The best piece of advice I can give you is not to buy anything yet. Read this forum and do a lot of browsing online/in store, try stuff on, and find out what you like. Also try to read as much on this forum as you can if you're interested. It can go a long way to getting some sartorial footing and finding out what brands/labels/cuts are quality and will suit you.

I also highly recommend buying off the B & S forum. I've never had a problem in over 20 transactions and your money will go a lot further that way. It can suck to wait around and not see what you want pop up but when it does it will likely be at a huge discount.

Do those things and you should be in good territory

I'm with Guccikid. Get a decent quality blue blazer. invest in a single pair of decent shoes, with a bit more money get a nice pair of slacks and finally buy yourself a decent shirt, something classic but lux like a Borelli.

For me it would be all about getting the feel of what quality clothing wear like with a few pieces that will last years. Blazer, dress up or down, nice grey slacks with the blazer or with a v-neck sweater, good shirt just so you can feel the difference between that and your standard mall crap. Go classic, go timeless and you'll have a blast.

And if you look sharp, look classic you'll stand out enough from the frat daddies that you won't need to pay for much of anything.

Personally I'd get 2 pairs of quality shoes. Black oxfords and perhaps a brown wingtip.

Other things will come and go, especially as your weight fluctuates. Shoes will likely fit the same, at least more so than other articles of clothing, over time.

If you want an instant style impact take $200 of your budget and get the shirts that you have now and are likely enough to wear for a few more years, fitted and tailored.

In college you probably have a lot of Gap. I did/do. They fit like crap but the colors and designs are fairly interesting and fits anyones budget. Get a competant tailor to slim these up (~$10/shirt) and a it looks like a whole new shirt.

Again, with your extra cash, get laid.
OR
Get one pair of exceptional shoes (your feet dont get fater or thinner, with in reason)
