I've only had two people disagree with me when I've said it's the greatest television show ever. I love that all the scenes were filmed on location.

One of the major themes of season three is that Stringer was right when it came to how he and Avon should run their empire. It was his idea to form the Baltimore-wide Co-Op and that was a major success for everybody invovled.

I believe that it was sometime near the end of Season 2 when he and Prop Joe are having a conversation about how a certain gangster (the name escapes me) played the game a long time ago. Joe talks about how the gangster didn't drop bodies, he just bought for a dollar, sold for two. Since that talk Joe and String bascially work together to try and get something similar up and running on a Baltimore-wide scale. Only Avon and his need to beef with Marlo gets in the way.

String isn't insane, but he's trying to balance the world he's trying to create with the world that Avon cannot let go of. At the same time he's trying to stay ahead of the mistakes that he made during Season 2 (Greenlighting D'Angelo and Brother Mouzone).

Fair enough but as Marlo showed at the end, the game (and its players) for the real world.

Will need to rewatch again!

Watched the first season when it was first on... but finally got around to watching the whole enchilada over my christmas break.

Definitely the best show ever, I'm pretty much ruined for television at this point.

Season 4 is my favorite, and Dukie's story arc through season 5 just kills me. Omar is an amazing character as well...

I should probably go ahead and pick up the box set.

I'm currently in the process of getting my wife hooked on it.

I go back and forth as to whether Season 2 or 4 is better. I'll know better after I finish watching 4 again.

Agreed, however, Marlo is in another dimension above anybody else on that list. Prop Joe is way far below everybody else on this list.

did this last year and now we can't start a new tv series without realizing how crappy it is compared to the wire. Like if something is "hyper reality" like SouthLand then she'll say "they wire was better". Basically tv sucks now after watching the wire. but at least i got to watch the whole series over again. I missed all of season 3 the first time around so I was really invested into seasons 4/5 on second viewing.

I think there's plenty of good TV out there, but you just have to come into each program with the right frame of mind. Lost is completely ridiculous. It makes no sense and the plot is almost contrived as something out of The Matrix. That said, it's my second favorite show and I love it.

i remember thinking season 2 was significantly less enjoyable than season 1 at the time, probably because there were just less GUNS AND DRUGS, but the second time through i realized it's one of the best.

This is correct. There is no discussion to be had. The only possible contender is Mcnulty. Now Snoop as the scariest character ever, that's a discussion. It is beyond me why people find Chris to be the more terrifying of the two. Also I too have had television ruined for me almost entirely by this show. I can't wait for Treme.

Stringer was an awesome character. I was kinda sad to see him get killed off so quickly. He stole the show every time he was on-screen.

I'd nominate Frank Sobotka. The writing in Season 2 was just too damn good and the character arc just heartbreaking. The Efuge efuge-scene (no other series has ever used music better than The Wire) in one of the last s2 eps is just brutal, as Frank walks towards the Greeks (who've just received word from their informant that Frank's been to the cops) and his death.

"You know what the trouble is, Brucie? We used to make **** in this country, build ****. Now we just put our hand in the next guy's pocket."

I hadn't actually heard of Treme (I don't subscribe to HBO). I looked up the wiki entry. Looks like Simon brought in The Bunk and Freamon to work on it with him.

While I would agree that Omar is the greatest character in TV history, I would like to send a shout out to my boy Ben from Lost. That dude is one scary mutha.

One a side note a coworker of mine with whom I often discuss The Wire believes that Brother Mouzone is the worst character on the show. I don't really mind him, but he is a bit over the top which is atypical of the rest of the show.

I really like Frank. He's definitely in my fav five on the show. Watching The Greek and Spiros getting away at the end of Season Two because of that turncoat mutha effa at the FBI makes me angry each time I watch it.

New Question

Which season had the best version of Tom Waits's Way Down in the Hole?

since the whole series of Lost is up on Hulu (i actually do follow that show with my wife) I rewatched the episode "the Constant" again. damn that has to be the best single tv show episode ever.
