i just found these on the bay, are they shell? where should i ask him to take pictures to have a better view if it is shell or not. the shoes are alden

If you could get a closer shot of the punch holes you'd be able to tell straight away. The edges on the rim of the holes are sharp on calf/corrected and blunted or sloped into the hole on shell. Never fails.

Absolutely they are. If they weren't, you'd see noticeable creasing on shoes that old. The coloring seems to be the result of the "milkly haze" that will build up on shell cordovans over time. These will shine right back up with a few minutes of TLC.
