I'm debating between the Vice Blazer and Jcrew's fireman jacket. Would like to see the fit of the VB too, wondering how slim it is.

I just received the Vice Blazer. I would say the body is relatively slim, but not slim enough for me. It also flares out toward the bottom. I took some measurements of the Vice as well as the Go-more-pile jacket to compare.

Vice Blazer
Size: Medium

Pit-to-pit: 22"
Waist: 19.5"
Hem: 22"

Shoulders: 18"
Sleeve: 25.5-27" (They are shaped at the end)

I normally wear medium in fitted/slim clothes, but the Vice in medium has quite a bit of room through the body. It fits like a slim large. I would size down to a small but then the sleeves would be too short (I have long arms and the sleeves on the medium are barely long enough).

I also got the Go-more-pile jacket in medium and the fit is better. I would say the body is like a true slim medium. The high arm holes and narrow shoulders/long arms fit nicely.

Go-more-pile Jacket
Size: Medium

Pit-to-pit: 21"
Waist: 18.5"
Hem: 21"

Shoulders: 16"
Sleeve: 28"

^^good first stop. If no luck, you could call Lizard Lounge in Portland.

http://www.lizardloungepdx.com/

They carry the largest line of Nau (retail arm of parent company). The have a pretty strong men's buy, too: Garbstore (not common!), Apolis, Crate, Stussy Purple Label, Converse/Varvatos, Shades Of Greige, Steven Alan, and some other good picks.

i don't actually know if they ship, but it's worth asking.

after doing some googling, i came upon this forum.
i've been contemplating investing in Nau's Rebound jacket.
it seems to be what i'm looking for.
however, i'm trying to find someone that can comment how it holds up in heavy rain / downpours.
the reviews i've read online seem to have only tested it in light precipitation.
i've owned various gore jackets and showers pass jackets in the past, just wondering how the Rebound measures up with waterproofness.

also: can anyone comment on the ability to get stains off of Nau's fabric?
i usually just use Dr. Bronner's soap to get out bike grease, but i know waterproof fabrics can be finicky with stain treatments sometimes. the eVent material on my old showers pass jacket didn't seem to resist stains very well.
ultimately, this will help me decide whether i go with the Lapis/Blue or the Caviar/Black.

finally: after reading through this thread, speaking to one of my friends, and stopping by lizard lounge today, it seems as though Nau has sales certain times of the year and offers online deals every so often.
should i try to wait for one of those sales and hope they still have my size (S) in stock?
summer is just around the corner, so pretty soon i won't be so pressed to have a waterproof jacket. though here in the pacific NW, the threat is always there. and since i'm almost always on my bike, it's nice to have it just in case.
anyways, this would be the priciest jacket i've ever purchased, so if i can manage to save a few bucks, it would certainly help me a lot.

thanks in advance for your help/advice.

Welcome to SF, bentfl.

I've never tried the Rebound so I can't comment on the piece itself. And yes, Nau does have sales and coupons every so often. I'm personally hoping they do that Changing Room program again.

Do you have a lead on the Rebound in S, though? It's out of stock in both colors on the website.

I haven't had much luck with sales since they relaunched. They used to do a lot of coupons for people on their mailing list, but they have reduced the number a lot. And when sales come around, the stuff I want is frequently gone in size small.

I don't have any experience with their waterproof fabrics. On their soft shell stuff, cleaning has been easy. However, the DWR isn't as strong as it is from many other brands.

If your goal is to get a stretchy waterproof-breathable jacket, you might consider trying to get a Stretch Ascent or Spraymaster jacket from Patagonia.

yeah, the folks down at the nau office here in portland let me try on a medium they had laying around. seems great. i've managed to call around to the various nau dealers in the US, and have found a SMALL in the Lapis. however, after seeing the two colors in person today, i'm going to try and find a SMALL in the Caviar.

worse comes to worse, they'll be making more for the fall (men's only). the Caviar will come back, along with a muted grey.

it's a shame the Nau website is out of stock, because that 20% off for earth day sure would make for a nice discount!

just talked to carma at Nau. apparently the Rebound won't be released again until next spring : (

she was also nice enough to check with their wholesale dept. and made some calls to various dealers, trying to find a small caviar.
no luck.

if anyone one manages to stumble across one (men's Rebound in SMALL, Caviar), i'd appreciate any leads. thanks.

after much searching, i'm almost certain that all stores have sold out of the Rebound in a Men's Small Caviar. i managed to find a couple of places that had mediums left. and 1 or 2 smalls. almost all of them were Lapis.

the last small Lapis i found was at the Horny Toard Outlet in Freeport, ME.
the people who helped me on the phone were super nice and helpful (mainly Jessie).
they even let me use an online Horny Toad related promo code. and 20% off this jacket is certainly a hefty discount.
therefore, i decided that the Lapis would be worth it. even if it wasn't my first color choice.

i should be getting the jacket sometimes next week. i'm entertaining the idea of blogging about my experience with it of the course of it's lifetime.
too many people who review this jacket (and most other bike-related rain gear) often only review it after 2 weeks of mild conditions (at best).
since i bike everywhere and in all conditions, i figured i could give everyone a detailed run down of how this jacket will perform over time. i've had a lot of experience with Gore, Showers Pass, and other waterproof fabrics. so i'm hoping i can lay out a decent comparison of how the Nau Rebound measures up.

That would be nice, man. The worst I've put my Urbane jacket through was an afternoon shower that lasted like four hours -- I stayed dry the entire time, though the fabric was starting to feel a bit wet.

I'm sure Nau would be interested in the story as well.

I can't comment on the Rebound, but I've done multi-day backcountry ski trips in my Hooded Cleanline; trekked all over the place (both here and abroad) in ****-ass rain in my Urbane Trench--sample product, never produced :-(, skied numerous lift-served days in my Shroud of Purrin and used my Down Shirt in all kinds of situations both urban and not. I've stayed dry and warm and the products have held up really well.

There are some design tweaks that I think certain pieces could benefit from, and fit is a performance issue with a lot of outerwear, so that's subjective. I don't love all the sportswear cuts, but I think the outerwear is top level.
